MO - Relics of saints stolen from Ste. Genevieve church
Relics of saints stolen from Ste. Genevieve church (StL Post-Dispatch)
The St. Louis Archdiocese is hoping to recover nine relics its says are missing from a Catholic church in Ste. Genevieve.
Relics are the remains of saints or objects associated with them. They are venerated by Catholics and often housed in ornate vessels called reliquaries.
Canon, or church, law states that it is "absolutely forbidden" to sell relics.
The relics were in the church on Christmas Eve, according to the archdiocese, but when a cleaning crew returned to the church last week, the relics were gone.
"This is very sad. Relics are something belonging to, or connected with Our Lord or a saint, such as a portion of their bodies or a garment they wore. As such, these items are priceless to us as a faith community. " said Rev. Dennis Schmidt.
The items have been with the parish since the 1930s and 1940s and were brought back from several trips to Rome.
"For many Catholics, it is a great custom and honor to have relics in our church. Certainly, there is historical value here...but for us, the spiritual value is enormous. There is no replacement for them. That is why we pray that these holy items are returned to us," said Rev. Schmidt.

That's some bad karma right there.
No doubt they just wanted the reliquaries and could careless about the relics. I wonder if they were First Class or Second Class? The First Class are actually like a bone or something of the Saint and Second Class something that touched the Saint's body. Also the article doesn't say what Saint's they belonged to.
Praying they get them back and the person didn't just ditch them someplace in a dumpster or something.

In my youth, many hundreds of years ago (lol!)... our Catholic churches were open at all times of the day. If the need were necessary, for a quick prayer, or the solace of the repetitive rosary... the doors of the church were always open. Only in the silence, can you truly hear the voice of Jesus.
I was an alter girl , back in the day...would ride my bike to serve 6 a.m. mass on weekday mornings before school...a small-town Catholic school, where the Grey nuns were sure to slap Crimson's fingers with a ruler for being disrespectful! I deserved it. I know that now!
The statues of the church, are so meaningful to those who visit them to pray in intercession. I, truly, (in all my hundreds of years!) have never witnessed a relic. Opportunities surfaced...just never did. Idk.
The thought of theives @ St. Genevieve Church...THOU SHALT NOT STEAL...kinda made my blood boil. I wonder who could do such a thing?
Awe...thanks for reading thru!Peace is flowing like a river,
Flowing out through you and me,
Spreading out into the desert,
Setting all the captives free.

Relics stolen from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., church are returned (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
Nine relics — the material remains of Catholic saints — taken from the sanctuary of Ste. Genevieve Parish were returned to the church Monday morning.
Ste. Genevieve's pastor, the Rev. Dennis Schmidt, said the relics were found in a plastic, zip-locked bag on a shelf in the church's entryway after 6 a.m. Mass. He said the church's maintenance crew opens the church at 5:30 a.m.
A typed note accompanying the returned relics, and addressed to "the priest and the people of Ste. Genevieve," contained an apology for the theft and a request for forgiveness.
Sunday's P-D article:
Did greed or devotion inspire theft of Ste. Genevieve relics?

It's a miracle. No lie this very moment I was going to look if this had been updated.
That's cool. I wonder if the person will go to Confession too? What would they say? "Forgive me Father for I have sinned. I stole all the relics out of the Church". What would the penance be on that I wonder?
Dear Lord, and Our Most Holy Virgin please help that person find their way and may they have an easier road ahead. Amen.
Hey, we all need some help.
