After 2010 campaign, Gov. Rick Scott gave back dog Reagan (Tampa Bay Times)
TALLAHASSEE — Shortly after winning the GOP nomination in 2010, Rick Scott announced to the world through Facebook that his family had rescued a Labrador retriever.

And, with help from his Facebook friends, Scott gave it a name: Reagan.

"The Scott family is proud to announce that the name (chosen by you) for their newly adopted pup is Reagan! Thanks to everyone who participated in the fun contest,'' read Scott's announcement on his Facebook page.

Commenters were ecstatic, congratulating Scott for getting a rescue dog instead of a purebred like Bo, the Portuguese water dog President Barack Obama adopted in 2009.
---
But where is Reagan today?
---
Asked last week what had happened to the dog, Scott's current and former communications directors refused to answer.
---
Scott said Reagan never bit anyone but "scared the living daylights'' out of people at the mansion.
---
So the Scotts gave the dog back to his prior owner, Scott said, about a month after the family moved to Tallahassee.

more at the link, and Daily Mail:

Florida governor RETURNED the rescue dog he adopted for his 2010 election campaign... AFTER he'd won

For our C in G (don't ask, you can guess)....why am I not surprised?

From the Daily Mail article:

“Scott eventually said that dog wasn't a good match for his home and gave him back to previous owner.”

It was found out that the dog “Reagan” was registered as a democrat. The Scotts sent him packing.

He’s a cutie though, the dog that is.

Since the dog was a rescue dog, what owner are they talking about?

I don't know about this doggie for sure, but sometimes they go to foster homes while waiting for an adoption (per FB orgs I belong to).

Does this mean Reagan is a Rescue Rescue dog? And if Reagan is adopted again is he a Rescue Rescue Rescue dog? Or a multi-Rescued dog? Or the occasionally rescued dog?

If politicians (or presidents) are going to get dogs as a "political ploy" then choosing a rescue is definitely the best option even if it doesn't work out.

If they make a big show out of choosing a purebred from a breeder there is a good chance that dog breed becomes way "too popular" and all kinds of ignorant people will run out and do the same thing even though they can't handle the dogs.

The "Dalmatian" effect, after the movie lots of folks bought Dalmation puppies for the "kids" and then dumped them at the shelters when they realized they were too hyper and didn't act like the ones in the movie.
