Although Mr. Toups is believed to be deceased, that has not been proven and no body has ever been recovered. I just don't want him to be forgotten.

Intoxicated man taken to hotel by deputies, goes missing soon after

BOGALUSA - Where is Larkie Toups?

That question has his family and police scratching their heads and envisioning the worst.

Toups, a 47-year-old tugboat crewman from Galliano, was last seen at the Budget Inn on Austin Street in Bogalusa, police said. He was wearing blue jeans, red shirt with white shirt underneath. Toups was also wearing blue canvas slip-on shoes.

Toups and another man, Nathan Hebert, were here to visit Allen Ellender. The three had grown up together in Galliano, 120 miles from Bogalusa in Lafourche Parish.

WPSO is working diligently to find Toups, Kirby said. "We've canvassed the neighborhoods," and continue to search, he said.

Family members are not pleased that deputies dropped off Toups at a hotel.

GALLIANO — More than a year since he was last seen at a Bogalusa hotel, the family of Larkie Toups has all but given up hopes he will one day return.

At this point, their remaining wish is that authorities can find his body so that a memorial service can be held.
“There’s still a question mark,” Rose Toups, his mother, said. “I sure wish he’d come back, but I think I know better now that somebody did something to him.”
Toups, then a 47-year-old tugboat crewman, went missing the night of Jan. 1, 2008, after visiting friends in Bogalusa.
A Bogalusa police spokesman, Sgt. Darrel Darden, said his department is currently investigating two men believed to have participated in the robbery and murder of Toups.
No charges have been filed, however.

Toups, a 47-year-old tugboat crewman, disappeared shortly after Washington Parish sheriff’s officers noticed him walking around intoxicated and brought him to a nearby Budget Inn. Two hours later, a hotel employee discovered the man’s door opened slightly and found his room key and ID card inside the room.
Since then, members of Toups’ family say they have traveled multiple times to Bogalusa only to receive chilly receptions from the local Sheriff’s Office.
"They’re not helping us at all," Toups’ sister, Pauline Plaisance, said. "They won’t even answer our calls. They won’t even talk to us."

Toups, circa 2008

<<Two hours later, a hotel employee noticed Toups's room door was ajar. His identification and room key were inside the room, but he was gone. He has never been heard from again.

Toups's family stated he becomes confused when he's intoxicated, and he may not have known where he was the night he disappeared. His family stated it's very uncharacteristic of him to be out of touch with them; they believe he is deceased.

Authorities have two suspects whom they believe may have robbed Toups and killed him, perhaps unintentionally. He was employed as a tugboat crewman and lived in Galliano, Louisiana, about 120 miles from Bogalusa. If he is alive, he may be in Mississippi. His case remains unsolved.>>
