(CBS) -- Police say a male teenager has been charged in the brutal stabbing of a New Jersey woman while she was shopping with her baby at Bed Bath & Beyond, CBS New York reports.

The victim's family said 29-year-old Kerri Dalton had her infant child with her inside the Middletown, N.J., store. She was stabbed more than a dozen times and was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where she remained in stable condition late Thursday night, according to CBS New York.

The baby was unhurt and was with the family, the station reported.

Oh Dear Lord. That's unimaginable. What in God's name would even possibly go through your head knowing your baby is right there? Poor, poor woman. Very beautiful too.

    In the meantime.

Haynes was a familiar face in the Petco near the Bed Bath And Beyond.

The cats he set on fire he had somehow adopted through the internet though. Petco said he'd come in to look at the animals.

When is our dumb government going to realize this problem is a SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS problem and not a gun ownership problem, knife ownership problem, razor blade ownership problem, and etc....?

It is now almost impossible to find a psych hospital bed for a seriously mentally ill person. It is impossible to find a residential psychiatric bed for the dangerous mentally ill. Why? Our dumb government closed almost all the residential psych facilities. In addition, our dumb government has allowed (by intentionally underfunding them) many of our acute inpatient psychiatric wards to close. In 1955 there was one psychiatric bed for every 300 Americans. Today there is one psych bed for every 4,000 Americans.

Waiting for the severely mentally ill to harm others before locking them up in jail is the dumbest of all "national mental health plans". Prisons/jails don't provide permanent solutions for those who have incurable illnesses and are noncompliant with their medications. Prisons/jails release psychotic people back into the community! THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION!

REOPEN the residential psychiatric facilities! The current plan of treating the severely mentally ill as outpatients while letting them wander around unmedicated in our communities has obviously failed!

How many times have we heard of someone killing or attempting to kill, and it turns out they have a "history" of cruelty to animals? Maybe if maiming and mutilating animals were taken more seriously some of these people might be caught before they can progress.
