Cheers to Blue Monday, 'the most depressing day of the year' (Yahoo)

As if any Monday in January weren't bad enough, Blue Monday, an ill-reputed date dubbed "the most depressing day of the year," should really put you in a mood. While there has been some confusion over exactly which day Blue Monday falls on in 2013, the official date is January 21.

The theory of Blue Monday dates back to 2005, when UK psychologist Cliff Arnall created an elaborate mathematical formula to calculate the most miserable day of the year. Thanks to the day's perfect storm of drab weather, holiday bills, and wrecked New Year's resolutions, motivational levels, the idea goes, hit an all-time low. The result: feeling depressed, being inactive, and eating too many carbohydrates.

That's what I was thinking. When I taught, good old cryptofascist Oklahoma didn't count this as a holiday (actually, I'm not sure they do now) so it was classroom time for me, same schedule.

Have decided this is indeed Blue Monday as my elaborate plan was to roll quarters and cash 'em in today, no other money at hand, has failed - official holiday or not here, the banks indeed are closed. Argh!

We've had an usual cold snap around here. It's been freezing fog for three weeks now. This is my blue Monday UNLESS this cold snap lasts until next Monday! It better not!!! :nono:

But yeah, this alleged Blue Monday here in Aus was quite a nice cool summer day, and not unpleasant at all. For me, anyway. I've never really understood Mondayitis, not since I left school. I used to really enjoy the first morning back at work.

I totally agree with you. Coldest day so far this year/season. Wind chills still expected between -25 and -35 for at least another day.
