A 26 year-old Barbadian who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, is missing.

Sheila Mayers, of Church Village, St Philip, is hurting terribly over the mysterious disappearance of her only son, Ronald Goodridge.

She told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that her son went missing since last Friday when he left home informing his wife, Tiffany Williams, that he was going either to a supermarket near his home or a lake where he usually went fishing.

While his car was discovered near the lake early the next morning by his wife, Goodridge had mysteriously vanished.

A worried Mayers said when she received the telephone call informing her about her son, she went numb.

I have not eaten since then and his grandmother, Evangeline Burrowes, who raised him, has gotten very sick, she said.

Mayers said she learnt from his wife that he was a little depressed because he had lost his job.

His wife told me that the night he went missing he had spoken to her about losing his job and he told her that he did not feel good that she was working and he was not. He told her that he liked to be a responsible person.

Police in Georgia also launched a search and while they have so far not found him, they have informed the family that foul play was not suspected.

A sad Mayers, who spoke to her son three weeks ago, said what hurts her most was that she had no money to travel to Georgia to help search for her son.

She explained that she sent her son to the United States to visit his father when he was 12.

All of these years he spent there and look what has happened now, she cried.

She said three years ago Goodridge, who had a seven-year-old daughter, was involved in a road accident, and since then he had been on medication.

He has to take this medication every day to keep him focused, she said.

The Barbados Consulate in Miami has offered Mayers some assistance.

    From staff reports

GAINESVILLE - Hall County authorities Monday began using cadaver dogs to search the waters of Lake Lanier around Clarks Bridge Park Monday for a missing Gainesville man.

Ronald Andrew Goodridge, 26, was last seen January 14. His car was found at Clarks Bridge Park.

"That was our last point of contact with his vehicle, so as a precautionary measure, we're going to use the dogs," Strickland said.

Strickland said the dogs come from Augusta and have been postponed twice because of weather.

"The dogs will be used on a boat, and the boat will cover an area near the Clarks Bridge, the bridge itself," Strickland said.

If the dogs alert on human scent, divers will search the water in the area.

Goodridge was last seen at his Wildwood Drive home wearing a grey sweatshirt, jeans and house slippers.

Authorities ask that anyone who has spotted Goodridge or has information about his disappearance or whereabouts to call Investigator Danny Weaver or Hall County Emergency Dispatch.

Underwater camera will look today for Ronald Goodridge
    By RICK LAVENDER
    The Times

Police have searched Lake Lanier trying to find Ronald Andrew Goodridge, a missing 26-year-old man.

A day after divers searched the murky depths along Clarks Bridge, Hall County Sheriff's deputies will return with an underwater camera today, looking again for any sign of Ronald Andrew Goodridge.

The 26-year-old Gainesville man was reported missing Jan. 14. His car was found abandoned off Clarks Bridge Road on the southwestern side of the bridge.

The area just north of Gainesville and across Lake Lanier from Clarks Bridge Park is popular for bank fishing.

Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Strickland described the search, which included a cadaver dog, as the next step after foot and aerial searches came up empty.

"We're just looking into the possibility that he could be in the water," Strickland said. He also said there's no evidence of foul play.

Divers with the county's underwater search and recovery team spent more than five hours in the chilly water Monday, combing the southwestern shoreline. The dog, trained to help locate bodies, "alerted" near the bridge in that area, Strickland said.

Authorities will use an underwater camera today to search a smaller section, he said. Divers can follow.

Strickland said silt and the Chattahoochee River current coursing beneath the bridge limit visibility underwater to 2 feet or less.

Goodridge was last seen at a residence on Wildwood Drive in Gainesville, according to the sheriff's office. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and slippers.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call investigator Danny Weaver at (770) 533-7687 or Hall dispatch at (770) 536-8812.

'Somebody has got to see him'
Wife holding out hope for missing man

    By RICK LAVENDER
    The Times

Tiffanie Goodridge doesn't know what happened to her husband after he left home the night of Jan. 14 for what she thought was a quick trip to a local store.

As puzzling for Tiffanie, though, is why no one has found or spotted him since.

"Somebody has got to see him," she said this week. "Because you don't just disappear off the face of the earth. That just doesn't happen."

Hall Sheriff's Office deputies and investigators have yet to find any evidence as to what happened to Ronald Andrew Goodridge, or where he might be, Capt. Jeff Strickland said.

The 26-year-old Barbados native, who is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, left his home at 2114 Wildwood Drive on Jan. 14. His blue 1994 Chevrolet Beretta was found across town, parked on the southwestern side of Clarks Bridge.

Though Clarks Bridge on Lake Lanier was one of his favorite fishing spots, Tiffanie said her husband didn't take any fishing gear and didn't like to fish in the cold.

He also didn't take his medication with him. She said Ronald suffers from bipolar disorder, an illness that can spur wide swings in a person's mood, energy and behavior.

Without the medicine Ronald took nightly, her husband is prone to paranoia and hallucinations. "What's hurting me so bad," Tiffanie said, "is that within, I'm going to say seven days, he's like a fearful child that needs help."
