At least seven people have been injured, some critically, in a mutli-vehicle collision on a busy southern Ontario highway.
Lakeland Health says they have been told to expect three people with critical injuries and four other people with more minor injuries following the crash on Highway 401, about 80 kilometres east of Toronto.
The pileup is east of Oshawa and just outside of Newcastle. People heading east out of the city toward Montreal or Ottawa should plan alternate routes.
Reports have said that as many as 80 vehicles could have been involved in the crash.
The OPP is reporting that the 401 is closed both ways.
Firefighters say one driver had to be cut from his rig.
Const. Linda Wolf says police are looking into today’s blast of winter weather as a possible factor in the crashes.
