Tortoise 'survives in locked store room for 30 years'
A family found their missing pet tortoise in a store room more than thirty years after they lost her, it was reported on Friday.

That is incredible!!! I do feel bad for the tortoise, though. Are they social animals? Poor thing was all alone for 30 years!!

I wonder if the deceased father who hoarded stuff in that store room could have been taking care of the tortoise without telling anyone.

^ hear! hear!

"May have survived by eating termites from the wooden floor" a bit of a stretch. Just generally, living thing + no apparent food source = death. Tortoises require a bit of water too I'd think.

I'm not buying it either. No water for 30 yrs..... I doubt a termite contains much moisture.

On a side note-can a tortoise be considered a pet? Do they show affection to humans the way dog,cats,birds,horses other mammals do? I think "pet" implys a 2way relationship.
