Montreal police are looking for a 61-year-old man from Lachute who has been missing since last week.

According to a Facebook post from the family, the man was last seen in person on Jan. 13.

Provincial police Sgt. Benoît Richard said Gary Forster was last heard from on Jan. 14 after he called his wife who was spending time with one of the couple's daughters in Montreal.

Family members believe he left his home on Jan. 14 to run errands.

"We recently found his car this morning in Montreal," said Richard. "It was near the Atwater Market where it had been towed from Workman Street, which is very nearby."

He said Forster's car was ticketed on Jan. 18 and was covered in snow. Richard said the car had been there for several days.

He said the missing man has not used his bank cards since he disappeared.

It’s been almost three weeks since friends and family had contact with Gary Forster and the SQ officer in charge of the case has nothing new to add.

Forster, 61, has been missing since Jan. 15 from his home in Lachute.

He got together with his family on Jan. 13 to celebrate the birthday of his granddaughter, and he last spoke with his wife by phone the next day. She was in Montreal visiting their daughter.

After days with no contact, they discovered his car missing, the house locked up and everything in order, no sign of a struggle or a robbery.

One clue turned up this week: Forster's car was found near Atwater Market.

It had been parked near Greene Ave. and Workman St, and was ticketed and towed during a snow removal operation.

The car was relocated Wednesday, and police are now searching it for forensic evidence.

Forster's family says he is outgoing and loves to talk, and had plans to take his grandchildren out in the near future.

"Now that hockey was back on he wanted to take my son to a game," said Chelsea. "My daughter, I think he already bought tickets to go to Disney on ice so he was excited."

His sister-in-law Tracey Moore says it is not like Forster to suddenly disappear.

"Completely and absolutely out of his norm which makes it all the more stressful and shocking to us," said Moore.
