In an email sent to staff, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office confirmed the victim was a prosecutor and was fatally shot.

Below is the entire email sent by the Dallas County DA:

"This message is not intended to scare anyone but please be advised. A Kaufman County prosecutor was fatally shot a few minutes ago outside the Kaufman County Courthouse in Kaufman. Two masked gunman are the suspects. They have not been apprehended yet.

Please be aware of your surroundings when leaving the building for your safety. This is probably a isolated incident but until further notice if you plan to work past dark today please be careful and ask security for assistance escorting you to your vehicles if needed. I will keep you informed as to the arrest of the suspects when i am notified. Don’t panic but please be aware of your environment when leaving the building."

Does anyone know how to find out if the prosecutor was personally trying a case today and what case it was ? No telling if this was revenge or if it was done to throw a case into a mistrial!

Can someone start a scanner thread please? I would do it if I could but I'm at work and can't listen.

Kaufman County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Patricia Laney told the Tyler Morning Telegraph the shooting happened shortly before 9 a.m. in a parking lot near the county's courthouse annex.

“This did not happen in a county building, but instead in a parking lot,” she said.

I noticed there seem to have been 'multiple' suspects.. Makes me wonder if it is a gang retaliation.
Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

The jury handed down life sentences for the gang activities charge and the possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver charge. The two aggravated kidnapping charges garnered Crawford an 80-year prison sentence for each and the jury assessed 30 years each on the remaining convictions.

Assistance District Attorney Brandi Fernandez was the lead prosecutor on the case, assisted by ADA Shelton Gibbs.

County Judge Wayne Gent confirmed the victim's identity, however his family has not been notified. The veteran worked as a prosecutor in Dallas County from 1983 to 1990. Gent told News 8's Jonathan Betz that the victim was not working on any high-profile cases that would've required any extra security. Investigators are following up on his caseload, however.

Tonya Radcliffe, a board member on the Kaufman County Appraisal District whose office is adjacent to the scene of the shooting, said a staff member heard the gunshots and called police. Radcliffe said she and her staff of about 25 are in the building and under lockdown.

Also locked down are seven campuses with the Kaufman Independent School District, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and the Kaufman County Courthouse. Forney schools are under a soft shelter, which means kids can move throughout the school, but are not allowed outside. The three campuses in the Scurry-Rosser ISD are also on lockdown.
