BOSTON (AP) — A charter bus carrying high school students from Pennsylvania crashed when it attempted to pass under a bridge in Boston on Saturday night, injuring more than 30 people, several seriously, and leaving some trapped inside for hours, authorities said..........

Authorities said the Calvary Coach bus did not belong on that road and state police were investigating whether charges are warranted against the driver, who apparently failed to see a sign prohibiting the vehicle from taking that route.............more at link......

The road they were on is limited access, here's a pic of the entrance ramp they used. There is a large warning sign hanging on chains. This exact sign had to have hit the front of the bus and scraped and bumped all along the roof, and yet the driver ignored it. And the turn to get onto that ramp is very tight, the bus would only be going about 5 MPH at that point. And when you get to the bridge, it's obviously really low, and there is another gigantic sign. There's plenty of time to jam on the brakes, if you're looking where you're going.

Thanks, Paul... WTH? How could the driver 'fail to see' those signs if he was paying any attention at all? I hope they really investigate him about this and make charges if indicated....he certainly should not be driving a bus again until this is cleared up....IMO

35 out of 42 passengers are injured...NOT the driver...seems like another GPS fail...he was watching that instead of the signs....he also drives a school bus....

............One person was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and three with serious injuries, the Boston Emergency Medical Services said. Thirty-five people were injured, Massachusetts state police said.............

State police said the driver "failed to heed signs" warning of the height limit and will likely be cited for an over-height violation. The investigation will determine if he faces more serious charges, state police said. The driver was not injured.

The driver, Samuel J. Jackson, looked down at his GPS and saw the bridge when he looked up but it was too late to avoid hitting it, Ray Talmedge, owner of the Philadelphia-based Calvary Coach Bus company, told WCAU-TV. ................

The students were part of a Destined for a Dream Foundation group, Talmedge said. Officials with the Bristol, Pa.-based group, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged youth, refused to comment on the crash when reached by phone.
