NEW YORK (AP) — A federal prison guard was charged Tuesday with having an illegal affair with an inmate convicted in one of New York's most notorious police killings, later becoming pregnant with his child.

Nancy Gonzalez, 29, was arrested Tuesday on charges she intentionally engaged in a sex act with Ronell Wilson while working the night shift at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. She became pregnant in June, a few months into the affair, according to court papers. Gonzalez appeared in court Tuesday visibly pregnant and crying, her hair pulled back in a ponytail, and was released on $150,000 bond.

"She's had a very tragic life," said her attorney, Anthony Rico. "She has long-term issues that affected her life and judgment."............

If you've already had a tragic life that impacts you that much... working at a correctional facility is probably not the best choice.

And hello... has nobody heard of protection? Birth control?

If you are going to be sleeping with a double murderer... use something that will work!

Talk about child custody issues... he was already IN prison... so it's not like he got arrested after the fact.

Poor kid.

Wait a minute, she got pregnant ON PURPOSE!
Please... someone take that baby away from her. There is no way she can be a fit parent. What if she gets "wrapped up" with a child molester next time?

She said she "kind of got sucked into his world," and that she "felt like, well, why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of hope."

She confessed her relationship with Wilson to a different boyfriend, another inmate who had been under her supervision at the federal prison but is now housed at a state facility. She said it was over with Wilson, and that she was worried she would get into trouble.

After she became pregnant, Wilson's mother made contact, requesting a sonogram photo, according to court papers. Gonzalez said she was worried about the calls because she feared authorities would catch her.

2 inmate boyfriends? Makes me think of those women (mainly women) who become pen pals with prisoners, then end up marrying them. Only she went farther and got a job where she could work with them.

Man who killed 2 NYC policemen gets death sentence

http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/man-who-killed-2-nyc-policemen-gets-death-sentence

..........U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis formally imposed the sentence after a jury decided at a retrial that Wilson should receive the death penalty.

The judge called the killing of undercover officers James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews "one of the most grisly and horrific crimes the city has ever seen." Wilson proved he was remorseless by repeatedly acting out behind bars after winning an appeal, he added..........

In February, authorities revealed Wilson fathered a child with a jail guard at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. She's since pleaded guilty to an illegal sex act. In his remarks Tuesday, Garaufis called on federal officials to investigate the security breaches........more.....

The murders, from November 2006:

Two covert police detectives spent their final minutes touting their underworld credibility and evading their surveillance team in an effort to put the men they were investigating at ease, according to testimony and recordings delivered in court yesterday... Minutes later on the evening of March 10, 2003, the detective, James V. Nemorin, 36, and his partner, Rodney J. Andrews, 34, lay dead on a street in Staten Island. ..

That witness, like several others in the case, was a member of the so-called Stapleton Crew, a street gang that prosecutors said sold drugs and guns, shot, robbed and terrorized a path across Staten Island... In the years since the shooting, seven members of the group have pleaded guilty to a variety of charges in exchange for their testimony against Mr. Wilson.

Ms. Kavanagh told jurors that Mr. Wilson intended to steal $1,200 from the detectives, money they were carrying to purchase a Tec-9 pistol, though the stack of police-issued $100 bills remained in Detective Nemorin’s pocket after he was killed. She told jurors that the members of the Stapleton Crew had speculated on Detective Nemorin’s police status, but she stopped short of suggesting that Mr. Wilson knew for sure.

Cop Killer Found Mentally Retarded, No Death Penalty

A Federal Court judge has ruled cop killer Ronell Wilson cannot be executed because he is mentally disabled.

Wilson was convicted and sentenced to death by two separate federal juries for the murder of two undercover NYPD officers Rodney Andrews and James Nemorin.

(...) The judge instead sentenced him to life in federal prison without parole.

Federal prosecutors want more time to decide whether to appeal a Brooklyn judge’s decision to revoke the death penalty against convicted cop killer Ronell Wilson.

In papers filed in Brooklyn federal court, prosecutors said they want to figure out their next legal move in the case after the U.S. Supreme Court reviews a case about the legal standard for “intellectual disability.”
