"A man has been accused of racially abusing then physically assaulting a 19-month-old child on a flight to Atlanta last Friday."

"Joe Rickey Hundley, 60, allegedly demanded that the mother of the crying toddler 'shut that n****r baby up' before slapping the infant in the face on the Delta flight on February 8."

Lawsuit and jail!!

We're off to a good start here with the title "Company President". I assume he won't be holding that title for much longer. And as said "Company President" if he was flying on business, mommy should be looking forward to a big fat check. Otherwise, a personal check from him.

And I hope the judge SLAPS HIM with some jail time.

Disgusting!

This is terrible. A complete stranger feels the right to put his hands on someone's child? I wonder how the other passengers reacted to this? He should be in jail.

There was a question on FB: What would you do if that had been your child?
My response: That would be the last child he ever slapped (if you know where I'm coming from.) :furious:

from link:

The mother said that he 'reeked of alcohol', was 'stumbling around wasted' and he consumed several double vodkas during the flight.

Wonder if he's an alcoholic? (trust me I'm not excusing his behavior if he is, I grew up with practicing alcoholics who never obtained sobriety). If convicted then if he uses the defense of alcohol then they need to order rehab while he's serving his sentence.

Poor baby.

"simple assault" and a potential year in jail --- for:

- attacking a child
- on a plane
- after making a racial slur

---disgusting.

I think "Company President" has a LOT to do with why the charge isn't more serious.

I hope "rich white man gets community service order after attacking black child on plane" is not the follow up report. Though I somehow doubt that'd make the news.

From the dailymail article above:

Hundley pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault in a Virginia court in 2007 after he was arrested following a quarrel with his girlfriend.

He was first charged with simple assault, carrying a concealed weapon, and public intoxication.

What a pig.

"Restoring confidence in chief executives"..

"Surveys show that 87 percent of the general population feel CEOs cannot be trusted."

"Hundley plans to plead not guilty to the assault charge, his lawyer said."

This is the guy running Snecma (now Safran), that's BIG $ he has to pay his lawyers with.

Talkin' bout this guy:
"Mr. J. R. Hundley, Rick has been President of Unitech Composites and Structures at Unitech Composites, Inc. since October 31, 2011. Mr. Hundley served as President and Chief Operating Officer of A&T Systems, Inc. since September 2009. Mr. Hundley served as Vice President of Acquisition and Logistics Strategic Business Area of American Systems Corporation since February 13, 2007. He has 25 years of senior leadership experience with leading corporations in the aerospace and defense sectors, with high technology products and services, such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and the Safran Group. Mr. Hundley served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Safran USA Inc. (formerly Snecma USA Inc.) since 2001. Mr. Hundley served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a division of Lockheed Martin Corporation. Mr. Hundley served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer for General Dynamics Product Support and Services Company (PSSC) and Vice President of International Sales and Marketing for General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). He served as Chief Operating Officer of NISCO. Mr. Hundley Hundley is a graduate of Lindenwood University from which he earned a bachelor of science in management and a master of business administration in finance, and has completed senior leadership and lean enterprise programs at the Lockheed Martin Institute, and Program Management at the General Dynamics Institute."

He can add "baby beater" to his CV. Along with "racist".

He's head of a company that is a subcontractor for the Department of Defense. His big salary is paid with our tax money. DoD should order his company's contract cancelled until he is fired.

Did they force him off thd plane? I thought people were no longer allowed to be disruptive in flight, and it sounds like he was even before assaulting a baby.

couldn't they add the charge of it being a hate crime on to that? IIRC that adds an automatic (forget how many years) onto the sentence.

I swear if I was the child's momma, I would have likely smacked the drunk. I cannot grasp why a stranger would even think about smacking someone's child. IMO

Hundley was suspended from his job as president of Unitech Composites and Structures, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported (http://bit.ly/Xg2aJQ).

How can he plead not guilty with all the witnesses around? Not to mention the child has a scratch under his eye.

Amazing what these self-entitled rich racist folks think they can get away with. I hope she's hired a good attorney and takes him for a ton of cash!

He is lucky that I'm not the child's mama---:fight: :bigfight:

I am assuming that toddler's daddy wasn't on the plane...or MR. CEO wouldn't have made it off that plane.

Here comes the psych defense....I bet he heads to a psych facility or a detox facility pretty soon if he isnt already there.

Where were the flight attendants? On behalf of the airline, they have a duty not to overserve someone. Why aren't they mentioned as doing something after he allegedly slapped the baby? Obvisiously this guy had to be yelling fairly loudly for Ms. Bennett's witness to have heard him 12 rows away, which also means there should be more than one witness. I'm not sure I believe all of her claims just yet.

I found an article that answers some of my questions above.

http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/191451501.html

In a prepared statement, Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec said:

"On February 8, two passengers on Delta flight 721 were involved in an altercation during the flight. The flight landed safely at Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, and we are cooperating fully with the investigation being conducted by law enforcement officials. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused for the passengers onboard."

Skrbec declined to provide any further details.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that flight attendants separated the passengers involved after the incident and the crew arranged for law enforcement to meet the flight when it landed.

When the plane began its descent Jonah's mother says he started crying, and that's when Hundley lashed out at them both.

http://abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=news/national_world&id=8994314

At that point, Hundley, according to court documents, told Bennett to "Shut that n-word baby up".

-------------------------

"When I had looked at Jonah's face, he had, his eye was swollen…and it was bleeding,"
Bennett said. "I was just scared to death."

So glad that there was witnesses who intervened and that can testify.
