SHOOTINGS: 4 dead in several Orange County locations (ocregister.com)
---
The first shooting was reported in Ladera Ranch, where the shooter is believed to have killed one person inside a home along Red Leaf, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The shooting was reported at about 5:20 a.m.

The shooter, described only as a male, fled in an SUV, then attempted to carjack multiple vehicles in Tustin, Lt. Paul Garaven of the Tustin Police Department said.

The first carjacking was reported at Red Hill Avenue and Nisson Road, where a bystander was shot, he said. That person was not fatally injured, Garaven said.

Police then received reports of another shooting along Village Way and the 55 freeway, where the shooter is believed to have shot and killed a driver before taking a vehicle.

Officers continued to search for the gunman until they received reports of a man with a gun near the area of Edinger and Newport Avenue. Two people were shot there before the gunman took another vehicle, Garaven said. One of the victims was taken to a nearby hospital. The other died.

Although the shooter has yet to be identified, a preliminary report issued by local network KTLA before his death was confirmed described him as a male in his 20s, who fled the scene of the first shooting in an SUV. Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino tells a local NBC affiliate, "There are no other shooters and there is no threat to the community.”

I think "murderous rampage" fits this one.

Good presser, good spokespersons.

Four dead incl. shooter. Possibly seven persons shot altogether, one now in critical condition. Three carjackings.

Horrific detail of one carjacking: person in BMW stopped, taken out of car, and executed at roadside, away from vehicle.

O.C. shootings: Ladera Ranch neighbor heard a 'bunch of ruckus' (latimesblogs.latimes.com)
Residents in one Ladera Ranch neighborhood saw crime tape and police vehicles when they awakened Tuesday morning as authorities investigated what appeared to be the first in a string of shootings across Orange County that left at least four people dead, including the suspect, and others wounded.

Jason Glass said he was across the street from the crime scene, working in his garage, when between 2 and 3 a.m. he heard what he now believes were three to five gunshots. About 4 a.m., Glass said, he "heard a bunch of ruckus" — no yelling, but lots of doors slamming — before a car sped away from the house.

"I just thought somebody was being really loud and obnoxious," Glass said.

Deputies arrived about 4:45 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from inside the home reporting a shooting, Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said. Deputies found a woman dead inside the home; no one else was hurt.

SHOOTINGS: Police ID man suspected in slayings (ocregister.com)
---
“I killed someone, today is my last,” Tustin Police Chief Scott Jordan said the suspect told one of his victims.

Two people were killed in the carjackings, one shot in what police described as an “execution” at the side of the road. Two others people were wounded before the man suspected in the shootings stopped in Orange, walked out of the car and shot himself with a shotgun.

The gunman was identified by authorities as Ali Syed, a 21-year-old Ladera Ranch man and a student who lived with his parents. His connection to the woman killed in Ladera Ranch, identified only as a woman in her 20s, was unknown, authorities said.

two of the victims ID'd too; much more at the link

Let's see if I have this right . It looks like the first shooting might have happened at the home between 2&3AM but was not reported to police until 5:20 AM.

The rest of the shootings followed, starting shortly after police arrived at the home of the first victim.

I wonder who reported the first shooting, and did the shooter wait at the home for a couple of hours after that shooting but flee when police were called? What was the shooter doing for two hours?

Sheriff's officials say they have unveiled no evidence that would explain what they described as Syed's "very bizarre, violent behavior."

Syed's first victim, who authorities identified Wednesday as Courtney Aoki, 20, was shot multiple times in a bedroom of a Ladera Ranch home early Tuesday morning. Authorities were not sure what she was doing with Syed; his parents, who were home at the time, told investigators they had never seen her before, and authorities do not believe that Aoki and Syed had been dating

Courtney was 3 months pregnant and was getting married in the spring.
Was an operator for an escort service and that is what she was doing when she was killed. :waitasec:

They are looking at a possible connection between Courtney, the killer and the construction worker Jeremy...
Family doesn't believe she knew either of them.

Yet in this article...
that same best friend says she WAS still an escort and she thinks that is how the killer got her into his home.
The sister says she was never an escort... but that appears to be incorrect.

I'm so confused. :waitasec:
