A SEARCH will continue today (Wednesday) after a man is believed to have fallen into the River Great Ouse from the St Neots Town Bridge on Monday night.

Jack hasn't been seen since leaving his home on Monday at 8pm.
Emergency services are searching for Jack Oxlee, 18, after the were alerted to a man falling in the river at 8.35pm on Monday.

Jack was last seen leaving his home in Phoenix Square, St Neots, at about 8pm on Monday.

He is described as white, 6’2’’, slim with shoulder-length dreadlocks and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a cream hooded top, dark tracksuit bottoms and a dark jacket.

Detective Sergeant Kath McCready said: “Jack’s family are very concerned for his welfare and we would urge anyone with any information as to his whereabouts to call police.”

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they searched downstream to Little Paxton until 11.30pm on Monday, when the search was handed over to Cambridgeshire police and the Spartan water rescue team.

The police helicopter, using heat sensors, was also called into the search.

The operation resumed yesterday with Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue (Camsar), and members from the Midshires rescue team, joining the search team.

Inspector Kate Scott of Cambridgeshire police said an informant reported seeing a man jumping off the bridge. She added that an extensive search was carried out but no-one has been found.

I think Jack may have been a vulnerable young man. Hoping there is a small chance he saved himself from the water and is confused somewhere. Does anyone know the river conditions and weather for the day Jack disappeared?

If this is the bridge, it doesn't look too high, the water is calm and the banks are shallow. I know it would have been dark and cold, but maybe all is not lost.

I live about 50 minutes drive from St Neots. The last week has been very cold, with night time temperatures around minus 2 degrees. The river would have been very, very cold.

I was out tonight and my hands went numb within a few minutes. I don't think he could have easily got out of the water, sadly.

Looks nice in the photo, but I guess so do icy lakes. It is very cold this time of year so why jump in?

I used to live near St Neots. As YAR says, it's been cold over there. There's been a lot of rain and at the time he went in there was a flood warning in place on the river. The river has a strong current. This is flooding from last November

Oh what a shame. I had no idea it had been so cold in England. That makes the outlook bleaker because even strong swimmers are quickly incapacitated in low temperatures.

It appears Jack was vulnerable, and living in supported housing with a view to learning how to live independantly.

Such a tragedy for him and his loved ones. I hope it is not too long before he is found.

    Another photo of Jack:

Cambridgeshire Constabulary has some info and comments re Jack here:

There doesn't seem to be any new info at all. Things are looking very bleak now. Does anyone know if river searches are continuing?

The help find fb page has gone, so I wonder if he has been found?

There's no updates I can see, even on the police site. I do wonder if there has been some news given to family though, otherwise I can't see why the fb page would have disappeared.

I'm not a facebooker - are we sure the family supported it being there?

There is still no mention at all of Jack on the local BBC site either. Either him being missing, or being found. Bad omission, if you ask me.

I didn't want to forget about Jack. Here is a recent article, but there is no new news. The two week milestone is important though, for people missing in water. Keep his loved ones in your thoughts, everyone. He may be brought home soon.
