Two San Diego County sheriff's deputies were shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the coastal community of Encinitas when officials were looking for a stolen vehicle.
Police said the gunman is not yet in custody and have deemed the immediate area "unsafe." The sheriff's department says a man is threatening to shoot deputies who try to enter a house on Del Rio Avenue.One deputy was injured after someone fired shots from a residence, according to the sheriff's department. Another deputy was also shot during the situation. Their conditions are unknown, though one of the deputies taken to a nearby hospital seemed to be in good spirits.
A witness told NBC 7 San Diego that he saw officers with guns pointed at the residence and he heard multiple gunshots.

2 deputies shot, non-life-threatening; one has a severe leg wound.
Standoff between the suspect and LE at present. Suspect in residence.
SWAT plus Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas LE on scene. Canine units.
Suspected of car theft originally.

Shooter resides with mother, sister. Unclear if they're in residence.
Shooter described as having mental health/drug issues.

Per "Steve the plumber," suspect is in his 20s. Steve (interviewed by Fox5) was doing work next door and heard the commotion. Very good coverage on livestream btw. Info from post above from Steve, too
And live coverage on Fox just ended. The LEO shot in the leg is in surgery. Apparently his knee.
Could be a long night in Encinitas. Reported to have turned off power to the standoff residence.
