Newport Beach Police scoured half a dozen blocks along the waterline Monday searching for clues after the body of a woman was found face-down in the sand.

The body was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. near Highland Street (map). Aerial video showed the location near a lifeguard tower.

Ok so what we have known is body was found face down in the sand, may have been in the water. No gunshot wound, no ID, prob naked as searching for clothes was mentioned. Death is supicous. A car was found on the street with parking ticket has not moved (is street sweeping day) and is said to belong to a person who visits someone in the area frequently.

I checked through the local news twitter feeds for the past seven days and came across reports of a shooting in a building on the 3rd floor of an apartment building in Newport Beach.
The person making the claim is incredulous that it was not being reported in the news, yet a shooting around the same time up the road in Anaheim was.

ocregister and newportbchtweet retweeted this persons information and asked for more details, but have as yet not reported anything further.
Strangely, none of these news tweeters reported the 'Newport Beach Asian Girl' in the days since.

Time will tell if this is linked.

Jellybeanz, I found an article that seems to fit your description:

Thanks, I saw that. That was Wednesday evening though.
The shooting in that Newport Beach apartment happened between Sun afternoon and Monday afternoon.

The victim in the shooting in Anaheim on Sunday afternoon was reported as not being a gang member, however the word on the street is that it is gang related. The Wednesday shooting you linked to could well be fallout from this Anaheim shooting?

Another young life lost. I sure hope they can find those responsible. RIP Tina.

I did find a website that said a Tina Hoang was arrested for prostitution on 2/25/2013. She is listed as being 20 yrs old and has a bellflower address.

http://www.localcrimenews.com/lookup.php?jid=8743901

Could very be the same person and that would also explain how she was identified so quickly via fingerprints

See it's already been posted..

Bellflower is about 30 miles away but if a well off guy suddenly had the urge to pick up a prostitute he may go there. I can't understand why though since it should take a lot less time to get to say Anaheim ( beach blvd.)or Santa Ana ( harbor Blvd) , only about 20 miles away. Besides the fact that most would probably just call an escort service instead. Also, I doubt a "john" would pick up a girl kill her and then drive back to his neighborhood. Maybe she had a pimp or it was someone that picked her up and decided to dump the body in the water or near the coast to make it look like she just washed ashore. Of course not realizing that is unlikely to be the case with the NBPD. She could have been an escort too though.

Looks like she's been identified.

I believe Chinese.

Cant tell from the picture if that's a bruise or a tattoo on her right temple.

Similar age, same race and so close in time to the Elisa Lam case makes me wonder.

On Thursday, police released two photos of Hoang in which a tattoo of stars and flowers can be seen near her right eye.

Yes, awful. Someone on FB is asking where is the baby :(

Yep. Further down on her FB, someone said her son is only a month old.

:'(

..... Her attorney, David Nisson, said she had given birth to a boy in January.
..... Nisson said he didn't know about Hoang's personal life nor did he have any indication that she might be in danger or have relationship problems. "I was shocked," he said of learning of her death. "I just knew her in court," he said. "She seemed like a nice and respectful person. She had an education."

Just fueling some food for thought here on possible serial profiler here

And Roger, white candles were at the Cecil as a memorial for Elisa and candles left at Newport Beach as well

I read white candles are a customary Asian burial ritual

Water is a part of Asian burials...the deceased is always cleansed in water...And water seems to be a common thread for both deaths

All clothes are usually burned/thrown out
Red colored clothes or anything Red is a bad omen for an Asian burial

Elisa was wearing Red...And I'm curious if the young woman at Newport Beach wore anything Red as well

Both victims clothing has not been found at the crime scene

Graffiti was found on the Cecil's roof top area, yeah we don't know anything more, but I did find part of the Asian burial rite is a placque placed and written in white/red next to the burial site...

Just guessing, who knows, both deaths could be related, just throwing some similarities out there
