IN - Body of newborn boy found in Indianapolis creek, 17 March 2013

How far is that from New Albany, marycarney?

Strange coincidence or connected?

New Albany is about two hours south- go one more mile south and you're in KY. Well, the Ohio river anyway..........

More (well, not more info, more version of of the story)

The last one states the baby was 'days old'. What the heck? We HAVE a well-publicized safe haven law. I work at one of TWO pediatric hospitals in the city that are Safe Havens. This is sickening.

FOX59 is reporting it was a male and only days old.

(My laptop is letting me know who is boss today {and it's not me}, and the link will NOT copy - sorry :( )

It's so sad and frustrating that someone, a parent I guess, would throw the little one away like that....like you said there are other well known alternatives...no excuse...I hope they are found and charged with the death.

Haven't read anything new in the local media. So incredibly sad........

Nothing really new but at least they are working on the case and asking for information from the public:

Police: Boy found dead in Indianapolis creek was newborn

http://www.courier-journal.com/arti...ssey=tab|mostpopular|text|NEWS&nclick_check=1

Indianapolis Metro police Sgt. Linda Jackson says investigators estimate the child’s age at close to newborn and that his race was white or biracial.

She says the cause and manner of the boy’s death his death remain undetermined.

Anyone with information regarding the mother of the infant is asked to contact police at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477). Jackson says investigators have concerns for the mother’s physical and emotional condition.

This one also mentions concern for the mother and the Safe Haven law:

Near as I can tell, there has been absolutely NOTHING in the local media about this baby in nearly four days. So very sad..........

I am up in Northern Indiana (near MI border) and have lived here almost 3 years. I've never heard of a safe haven law. Awhile ago I actually thought about it and wondered why we didn't (but never looked online to see). Maybe since you're in the pediatric medicine field you hear about it more than the common folk?

Regardless of the law or not though, no excuse to do this ever.

I've emailed a contact at one of the local TV stations - but nothing yet. Frustrating.

I still think that Safe Haven Laws should be much better publicized.

If kids have sex ed, tell them about the Safe Haven Laws.

If kids go to ANY location for condoms or birth control, tell them about the Safe Haven Law.

Put the information with pregnancy tests.

Even at the hospital... give out the information when someone gives birth.

If we could look at all the cases of abandoned babies... and find a common link... that is where we put the information.

I'm guessing that pregnancy tests are probably one of the only links.
