GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. (WJBK) -- 54-year-old Don DeWulf, a well-liked Grosse Pointe Woods man, was found dead this week inside his home. Police are investigating his death as a murder. No suspect is in custody.

DeWulf's brother, Mike, told us he stopped by the house on Hampton Monday morning and found Don dead on the bathroom floor. There was blood. He thought maybe his sibling had a heart attack, fell and hit his head. Then investigators discovered a bullet in Don's head that may have suggested suicide, but there was no gun. It has been ruled a homicide.

The victim's brother said earlier reports that Don was found hanging by an electrical cord in the bathroom are not true.

Don DeWulf's brother said he was the class clown. He sold life insurance and was very trusting. He always carried cash and it is feared someone may have targeted him because of that.

Anyone with information is asked contact police.

DeWulf's funeral will be held Thursday morning at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.

DeWulf's body was found inside his home in the 2000 block of Hampton Road in late November. He died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office.

In a brief update Friday, Pazuchowski said detectives are "very actively pursuing leads" in DeWulf's case.

There is not any specific informtion that Pazuchowski wants to release now as he does not want to compromise the case, he said.

However, he's fielded some questions about the public's perception of the case as being inactive, he said. He explained that "just because people are not hearing about it," does not mean it's inactive.

Quite the opposite is true. Pazuchowski said the detectives are working on a variety of leads and are in touch with DeWulf's family on a weekly basis.

The case has received little attention in the media as compared to the January 2012 strangulation death of Jane E. Bashara, which received national media attention.

Bashara's death had been the first homicide in the Pointes in years and DeWulf's is the first homicide in the Woods in years.
