    MI - Mary Tornga, 51, Grandville, 14 April 2013

Woman gets out of car, goes missing

Grandville Police found the shoe of a woman who went missing in the early hours of Sunday, her family says.

Mary Tornga, 51, was last seen in the area of Market Street and I-196 around 1 a.m. Sunday. She had been in downtown Grand Rapids with her husband at a birthday party, family members said. After they left the party in their car, Tornga and her husband argued. She got out of the vehicle and hasn't been seen since.

Finding one shoe does not sound good. That area is next to the river and not an area to be wandering around in at 1 am. I hope she is located soon.

A Michigan State Police helicopter was above the Grand River Monday afternoon, as search teams scoured along the riverbanks.

Grandville and Grand Rapids police officers also looked along Indian Mounds Drive and Market Street, hoping for any sign of Tornga.

When authorities called off Monday's search later in the afternoon, 24 Hour News 8 saw
Daryl Boonstra on his own looking for Tornga.
The area where Tornga disappeared is unpopulated -- a stretch of pavement between the freeway and the Grand River. Spring rains have flooded the woods just off the pavement.

"This is really kind of no man's land out here. I mean, the river, the river's high. The current's running fast. Either direction there's, as far as making contact with anybody, be quite a walk from here to find a gas station or something that's open, early morning hours," said Boonstra.
Theres alot of speculation about the husband. He was the last one to see her..argued with her...left her.

Monday afternoon, the Michigan State Police used its helicopter to search up and down the Grand River. There were no plans to search the river. "No, we're not going to put any divers in, heavy current, lots of snags, very dangerous to put boat in. We wouldn't even know where to begin."
Grandville Police say the Tornga's husband is talking with police and is not considered a suspect.

An active investigation is underway in Wyoming on I-196 Westbound, just before Market Avenue.

According to witnesses at the scene, at least 2 kayakers called 911 after seeing what they believed to be a body in the Grand River.

Unless I've provided a link, most of what I say is my own opinion. Sometimes, I'm thinking out loud and may explore avenues I don't necessarily think are true, but I'm always aware I could be wrong, so I check other stuff out.
