Missing mum might be in district
By Alex White, February 15th 2013

A FORMER Colac district woman has been missing for a week, and her daughter says it’s possible her mum has returned to the region.
Former Pennyroyal and Barwon Downs woman Lorrin Whitehead, 43, disappeared from her family’s Bannockburn home, north-west of Geelong, a week ago and no one has seen or heard from the mother of five since

Lorrin has five children. The family is desperate for answers.

Please find my mum

"The second youngest sister looks at me and says: 'Mum will come home won't she?', and all I can say is: 'How much does Mum love you and how much does she tell you she loves you every day'," Amelia said.

"She doesn't have to come home, all she has to do is call and tell us she is OK."
Hope fades for missing mum

Ms Whitehead disappeared without a trace on Friday, February 8, without her car, purse, phone or diabetes medication.
She was last seen near an ATM in Bannockburn.

It is understood Ms Whitehead also suspended her mail delivery for a week before she disappeared.

Good post here.

Yes they definitely are. I've had some contac with AK. She is desperate to hear anything!

POLICE may have suspended her mother's missing persons case, but Amelia Kaiser will never stop searching.

The 20-year-old Bannockburn nurse's mother, Lorrin Jane Whitehead, was last seen at the Bannockburn Safeway on February 8. As the six-month anniversary approaches, Ms Kaiser said the search had become desperate.

Ms Whitehead is a Type One diabetic, but has not used her Medicare card or any credit or debit cards to buy vital medications.

I'm intrigued. Surely this is not a coincidence?

Thanks for the link, SWMNBN!

I agree. I'm very intrigued by the family's gut feeling. Lorrin has certainly missed a lot since she's been gone. Surely it's foul okay. Very sad!

Have you seen Lorrin Whitehead?

The link to the claremont murders is absolutely chilling. Here's some posts from a newsgroup at the time of the murders https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.true-crime/Mz6NxHT2reg

In one article it suggests there are additional missing people from the school, has anyone else researched that?

I saw Lorrin's details on a promotional mat at the chemist this past weekend and she just stood out to me. I hadn't heard of her before. Not to be rude or dismissive because I care about everyone on those posters, but difficult lives show on people's faces and some people do go missing of their own accord, or have lifestyles that put them at risk, but Lorrin looks like so unlikely a victim.

I watched Crime Investigation Australia on the Claremont murders this morning. It almost feels pointless to speculate as to an Iona College link it seems like the police investigation was very thorough. The CCTV of Jane Rimmer greeting "Mystery Man", if I had to make a guess, I'd say she looks like she both recognises him and is somewhat surprised in a good way to see him. It made me think about how a young friendly woman would react if she saw a previous teacher in a context where they are now peers. A previous school teacher would gain their trust easily and also know students from a spread of year levels.

Have you guys seen this? I'm not sure how old it is, her daughter says they received a blank greeting card not long after her disappearance. Lorrin's version of a suicide note?

It says in the article that Lorrin had been missing for three months at the time the story ran, so I think it's from May 2013. I had never heard the greeting card details though. I wonder if the family don't publicise that detail as it does make it seem like a suicide/intentional disappearance.

Her eldest daughter, Amelia Kaiser, 20, added that her mother had stopped her mail for a week.

It's hard to know what to think- it does sound like Lorrin chose to walk away. At the same time, a week is a short time to have your mail held. I wouldnt get enough mail in a week to make it worth having it held if I was going to be away. I wonder which house the card arrived at. The fathers house where the children were, or Lorrin's house after the mail resumed. Cancelling the mail for a week may have given Lorrin (or someone- wonder if it was done online) time to post the card, but have a week before it was delivered.

*Laptop missing* email evidence?
Name some methods you could commit suicide where by you vanish on your own?
An empty greetings card sent by a calculated killer?

My heart hammered as I sprinted into Mum's bedroom. Her black leather handbag was lying open on the bed. Her phone was sitting on the bedside table and her diabetes medication was on the dresser. Strangely, her laptop was missing.

Whatever has happened, she should be very proud of how well her daughter is doing keeping her case in the public eye. I wish them the best, I hope she is found ASAP.

I feel her laptop was taken because it had email evidence someone didn't want police to see. I hope police have checked mail servers, social media, dating sites etc for associates in metadata etc.

Why has her laptop gone? Where is it? Someone computer savy has nabbed it for cover that gives them away? Why would she take her laptop?

Whatever has happened, she should be very proud of how well her daughter is doing keeping her case in the public eye. I wish them the best, I hope she is found ASAP.

Amelia Kaiser, 22, says that she has been living in a state of grief, anguish and confusion since her mother, 43-year-old Lorrin Whitehead (formally Lorrin Kaiser) went missing in February, 2013.

“I never thought this could happen to me and my family,” Amelia says.

Coping with the disappearance of her mother has left Kaiser in a constant state of anxiety. “I speculate continuously. If I just make the right call to the right person, I'll solve this mystery. If I look in the right place, I'll find her.

In situations like these, there are often more questions than there are answers. In fact, Kaiser says that she is haunted by questions: “Where did she go? Was she given a ride somewhere? Was she a victim of foul play? Is she in a hospital unable to say where she belongs? Does she feel abandoned, frightened, lonely?”
