Deputies checked with local hospitals and businesses but didn't find any sign of her. Several unsuccessful attempts have been made to contact family members, Haught said.

Umbarger is about 5'2 and 115 pounds and has brown eyes and blond hair.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies resuming their search on Wednesday for 81-year-old Shirley Umbarger have recovered skeletal remains in a wooded area approximately 100 yards behind her Osteen house.

According to a statement released Wednesday, deputies also recovered clothing "that's consistent with what Umbarger was known to commonly wear."

"The remains are believed to be Umbarger's, although a positive identification wasn't possible Wednesday due to the condition of the remains," according to a release by Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson.

If the remains were skeletal then how long was this poor lady missing?

Supposedly 2 weeks ago she was seen riding home with someone but that can't be if the skeleton is hers.

That was my first thought when I read the article. Although it is pretty warm in that area, and if the buzzards feasted (I know - terrible thought) then it could be possible I suppose.

Emailed Volusia County Sheriff's Office for an update on whether the remains were positively identified. I will update this if/when I hear from them.

    jwpmoyer,

We are waiting on DNA test results before making the final positive identification.
