OK - Jill Sides dead, husband wounded in ambush at their Luther home
Shoot-out near Luther kills woman (Daily Oklahoman)
A woman is dead, her husband riddled with bullets and her son in handcuffs after a shoot-out near Luther on Thursday afternoon.
Oklahoma County deputies found Matthew Strickland, 24, wearing a bulletproof vest in a car and detained him, sheriff's spokesman Mark Myers said.
Inside the trailer home at the address, they found Strickland's mother, 46-year-old Jill Sides, dead with a gunshot wound to her head and his 60-year-old stepfather — her husband — shot multiple times, Myers said.
Investigators said Strickland went to visit his mother, an altercation ensued and all three fired rounds during the incident. Strickland was reportedly hit by bullets, but was not seriously hurt because he was wearing the vest.

Strickland told police he knew his mom had a license to carry a concealed weapon. And? So what did he think was going to go down and why did he go there?
Strickland hadn't been around in years according to his stepsister. There's been a long running feud. He also had his young daughter murdered in Colorado in 2011.
He's active duty in the military. Well, he was.

Strickland was found guilty of first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and wearing body armor during the commission of a felony.
Strickland has told investigators he didn’t get along with his family and hadn’t seen them in years but went home to get some of his belongings. He’s claiming self-defense, but prosecutors say what he showed up armed with paints a different picture.
Matthew Strickland told investigators, “I was preparing for the worst” in May 2013 after he allegedly shot and killed his own mother and wounded his stepfather. Strickland, on leave from the military, arrived to his mother’s home wearing a bulletproof vest and knee pads.

This isn't relevant to the current case, but fyi regarding the accused.
Wonder what happened with his mom?
Son accused of killing mother had tragic past, investigators say
Strickland has a tragic past, officials say. He was a member of the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Carson Colorado in November 2011.
According to officials, Strickland's then girlfriend, Melissa Alexander, 27, was babysitting his 1-year old daughter Jocilyn on Nov. 9, 2011 at a Colorado Springs apartment. Strickland was at Fort Polk, La. for military training.
Alexander admitted to dropping the child twice and violently throwing a sippy cup at her, according to investigators. The child later died at a hospital from her injuries.
"I know she did it, just to hear it from her instead of everybody else would make it a lot easier on me," said Strickland back in 2011. Alexander had advertised her babysitting services around her apartment complex.
She was watching Jocilyn, her own young child, and another neighbor's child at the time. Alexander is facing first-degree murder charges in the child's death.
