Mother knifed to death and daughter, 23, left fighting for life after double stabbing at Premier Inn hotel
Detectives are keeping a vigil by the bedside of a knife victim whose mother was stabbed to death.

Nicola McDonough, 23, was fighting for her life last night in the hospital where her mother, Margaret, 52, died earlier yesterday.

Both women were discovered with knife wounds at a hotel where they had booked into a double room for one night.

Detectives were last night unable to say whether or not they had been the victims of an attacker.
---.
The first indication of the horror came at 7am yesterday when hotel guests found the younger woman slumped unconscious in the corridor outside her room.
---
Detectives are pursuing several lines of inquiry, which include trying to establish if the women inflicted the wounds on themselves or on each other.

Family members have been informed, and a relative told police that they were in a state of shock and ‘utterly baffled’ by the horrific incident. The dead woman is understood to also be the mother of several sons.

How strange..... murder suicide from what I'm reading, but a stabbing suicide? Perhaps a self-cutting injury described as a stabbing? IDK

Hm. They were slashed not stabbed, and no mention in the last couple articles of knives found. Was a broken glass or bottle used? What else might it have been? Also, police appealing for those who may have been phoned or texted - were the women found without their cell devices, which surely might be checked to know who was called or what was sent and when? Did the budget motel have CCTV cameras? Evidently so - police have ruled out a third party and at least, one would think, have a reason for doing so.

A mystery. The overnight stay in a budget inn less than 20 miles from their home; the apparent journey to Dunbartonshire, not far from either Paisley or Greenock, before arriving at the latter. The eight+ hour gap between check-in and time they were next seen. The six fatal hours afterward, which resulted in both of their deaths.

This seems like a true mystery! Is there any other way to enter the room that a camera would not have picked up?
Not sure but I'd doubt it; the place is described as a budget hotel and those generally just have the hallway entry. Don't know though.

NO third person? So did the mom and daughter have a fight? Stabbing. Or slashing each other?
So strange...the poor husband / dad. :(

Um, what? First knives and stabbing, then no mention of knives, but slashing, then.....this. This plus the cutting? All accounts say they were found with "serious injuries." Or did the press jump the shark here and invent the situation, or....well, what. Key word: "suspected."

Greenock hotel deaths: Suicide pact suspected (scotsman.com)
Unconfirmed reports also suggest the pair may have taken lethal amounts of paracetomol.

Toxicology reports awaited by police are set to confirm whether this was the case.

Greenock hotel horror: Bloodbath victim Nicola McDonough had big plans for the future, say her friends (Daily Record)
---
One friend said: “Nicola was her usual self when she was at university. The presentation was effectively her last act as a student and she had been actively applying for jobs and planning for the future.

“Nicola was a special girl and she had everything to live for. That’s why no one can comprehend what has happened.

“It’s not as if, with the benefit of hindsight, we can pinpoint any warning signs.

“Everyone is still numb with shock and at a complete loss to understand why this has happened.”

the rest at the link; still suspected as a suicide pact

Does this not belong under " Crimes In The News"?

I have been following the story on the UK newspapers online and it is definitely a crime scene with both women now dead. Even if one was homicide and the other suicide, criminal acts.

(Note- I thought the coverage was bizarre as well).

Leaving it here for now as there has been nothing concrete reported that a crime was committed, as it could well have been a double suicide.

Still baffling though.

Very Strange. I don't know what to think.

So much not known....where were they in the eight hours between check-in at the hotel (only 17 miles from their home) and the time they were next - and last - seen?
