RENO, Nev. (AP) — Detectives investigating a string of five homicides in two northern Nevada counties have made one arrest and believe all the killings are connected, including one at the interstate exit for the Mustang Ranch brothel.

A married couple was found dead Monday in a Fernley home about 30 miles east of Reno and another dead man and woman were discovered in a house a few blocks away. Police determined those deaths apparently are tied to a fifth victim who was found in a ditch along the Interstate 80 exit for the infamous brothel just east of Reno.

"We do believe that from talking to all of our detectives that they are connected," Lyon County Undersheriff Albert Torres told KRNV-TV.

KOLO-TV reported Tuesday one suspect had been arrested in connection with the case, but he has not been identified...........more.............

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A quiet northern Nevada community is on edge after a spate of killings left five people dead in a single day, including a married couple in their 80s, a 67-year-old woman, and a man found dead not far from the Mustang Ranch brothel.

Lyon County sheriff Allen Deil urged residents on Tuesday to be vigilant, even after deputies arrested a 25-year-old "person of interest" who was found near one of the crime scenes in Fernley and has acknowledged gang ties. Authorities were working to determine how many people were involved in the killings.

"What we don't want to do is establish some sense of paranoia, but we want people to be aware," Deil said. "By all means, lock your doors and windows. ... Notify us in the middle of the night if the dogs start barking."..............

"He had some evidence that came from one of the residences where we had two victims," Deil said. "He was in one of those residences where there were two deceased individuals and had some of their property when he was arrested."

By Tuesday afternoon, investigators had collected an "exhaustive list of evidence," he said.............

Investigators don't believe the killings were gang related and there was no evidence of drugs at either Fernley home, Deil said.

Authorities have not recovered any firearm or other weapon or instrument that could have been used in the deaths, and it's not apparent how the victims died. Autopsies were pending at the Washoe County medical examiner's office in Reno............

Police are looking for a white pickup truck they believe was driven by the victim found near Mustang — a 1998 GMC Silverado with Nevada plates, 336-UNB. KRNV-TV reported that victim was a 52-year-old man from Spanish Springs, a Reno suburb.

Jeremiah Diaz Bean was charged with killing Robert and Dorothy Pape, both 84, on May 10, 2013, at their Jessica Lane home in Fernley and then killing newspaper deliveryman Eliazar Graham, 52, of Sparks, on May 13, 2013, in Mustang (being tried in Lyon County) and charged with killing Angie Duff, 67, and her friend Lester Leiber, 69, in a home on Tamsen Road, around the corner from the Papes.

Bean also was charged with stealing two pickups and other items from the residences, resulting in additional charges (including arson) beyond the 10 first degree murder counts.

A plea agreement reportedly had been reached last fall with Bean, with the death penalty to be removed, but he changed his mind and pleaded not guilty to 19 felony counts when he came before the judge for pleading. This resulted in a change of attorney to Davies to serve as the death-penalty qualified defense attorney.

Convicted murderer Jeremiah Bean has been sentenced to death by a Lyon County judge...

Bean was convicted on five counts of 1st-degree murder after killing five people between May 10th and 13th of 2013. He was found guilty of the deaths of Dorothy and Robert Pape, Elizar Graham, Angie Duff and Lester Leiber, plus seven other counts of arson, robbery and burglary...

Deputy District Attorney Jeremy Reichenberg says the crime spree happened because it was a Friday, and Bean wanted cash to party.
