El Paso boy, 14, disappeared 30 years ago

Authorities suspect that Ruben Humberto Herrera may have been abducted when he disappeared 30 years ago in El Paso.

"He may have traveled to Mexico with an adult male in a silver and green 1977 Cadillac sedan," says the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. "The vehicle and the adult male have since been located but the child is still missing. Foul play is suspected."

"He also said the missing El Pasoan was unwilling to provide further details that might help to confirm his identity."

"The man who says he is Herrera indicated in emails to the El Paso Times that he does not wish to return to El Paso, reunite with his Texas relatives or disclose where he lives. "I just want to find my two sisters," he said."

"The man also said he wants to be removed from missing persons' lists. In order to remove himself from such lists, he has to confirm his identity to authorities through official channels."

Lots of info here. Not sure what to make of the ransom kidnapping and then a report that he’s alive and wants to be removed from missing reports. ???

Ruben Humberto Herrera

On the afternoon of Rubens disappearance, his maternal uncle, Miguel Zaragoza, received a ransom call which demanded $300,000 for the child’s safe return. The caller stated that Miguel and one of his brothers were to deliver the money at 9:00 pm the same night to a Denny’s restaurant located on the 400 block of north Mesa Street in El Paso, Texas. Miguel went to the Denny’s but did not make contact with Rubens kidnapper(s).
