Deputies from the Routt County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home on a report of an attempted suicide with multiple victims at 2:55 a.m.
Investigators say the resident of the home, Michael Kirlan met deputies and told them his son was dead inside the house, and his wife, Lisa Marie Lesyshen, 45, was upstairs with a gun.
They found the boy, 9-year-old Asher and then his mother. She was unconscious with a gunshot wound. Paramedics took her to the Yampa Valley Medical Center for treatment.

(in the video report it says the husband has not been ruled out as a suspect)

Warrant Reveals Details Of 9-Year-Old Boy’s Death

Court records show the Routt County woman who allegedly shot and killed her 9-year-old son was in the process of separating from her husband.

Lesyshen was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center, and investigators found three shell casings where she had been laying.

*Is it odd that she would shoot her son 3 times and then pick up the shell casings and carry them with her to her room?

She was in the process of separating from her husband? Something seems fishy here...imo. :moo:

Somehow, I think everyone may have missed the most important part of the story. From the article:

" Lisa Marie Lesyshen confessed Thursday to killing her 9-year-old son before unsuccessfully trying to take her own life early Wednesday morning, according to documents filed in Routt County Court."

If it is true that she confessed, then I think we can rule out the father. His actions certainly don't seem like those of a guilty man. He called 911 when his son was still breathing, apparently. But the kicker is that the mother was still alive. I would hardly believe he would shoot the child 3 times and the mother only once, leaving her very much alive.

It is quite apparent from the dad's FB that his life revolved completely around this beautiful little boy. Almost every single photo is a picture of Asher enjoying life. You can tell he was a proud father of a very talented child. How does this go so wrong??? How could this woman do this to this precious boy? Her precious boy? I can't even begin to imagine the horrible grief this man is going through and the empty space he will forever have in his heart at the senseless loss of his son.

How devastating. Geez, nine years old? Your on your way to becoming a tween. This young boy had his entire life to live.

RIP Asher.

Asher participated in some kind of challenge they had I guess for fitness in their town.

Yes-and I believe he actually WON! There is a certificate on the father's FB page. Asher seemed to be such a great kid-one that any parent would be so proud and blessed to have as a son. This is just so terribly heartbreaking. What was this woman thinking??? :stormingmad:

Some fantastic pictures posted by the community:

A wonderful article about Asher's life. What a special little boy.

http://www.steamboattoday.com/news/2013/may/29/friends-remember-asher-lesyshen-kirlan-energetic-b/

“If he was still alive, you would be his friend,” C, 9, said Wednesday over the phone. “He's a very good person. And he is very awesome and funny, and a lot of people do really like him.”

C talked for more than five minutes before he needed to pause and take a breath as he revealed all the things he liked about one of his best friends and third-grade classmate at Soda Creek Elementary School.

“Even if you were being a little bit mean to him, he'd still be nice,” the boy said.

What a devastating case. Poor sweet boy. RIP darling. :rose:

I can't believe there isn't bigger coverage on this story.

That said, I wonder if there is a way to get the thread name changed. It almost seems to hint that perhaps the father is a suspect, when all of the stories I have read thus far indicate that the mother has confessed.

This is just chilling! This whack job did this out of REVENGE!!! She bought the gun 2 days prior and wrote the note, which obviously shows a great deal of premeditation, so I would hope that she would be eligible for the death penalty or at least life in prison.

I can't believe this story isn't getting more play. This vengeful woman took the life of her precious innocent little boy to exact revenge against his father. I don't even get that! I could see her killing the husband for revenge, or much better herself. Not that it would be OK. But she was more interested in having the man suffer than for the life of her own child. RIP sweet little Asher. I can only imagine the man you would have become.

For some odd reason, I seem to only be talking to myself in this forum.

http://www.steamboattoday.com/news/2013/may/31/lisa-marie-lesyshen-arrested-charges-first-degree-/

On Friday, Lesyshen was charged with first-degree murder, child abuse leading to death, domestic violence and two crimes of violence charges that would extend her sentence if she is found guilty. A judge signed the arrest warrant Friday afternoon, and official charges were filed by the DA’s office.

#Lesyshen remains hospitalized in Denver but is technically in custody. She was advised of her rights Friday and is being guarded by deputies. Undersheriff Ray Birch said it isn’t clear when she will be well enough to be booked into Routt County Jail.

what was the 'child abuse leading to death' ??? was it just prior or was there a history that someone missed...:maddening:

I'm not a resident, but I've been visiting my son here for about a month. The town is truly upside down over this tragedy, because 'everybody knows everybody' here, and the crime rate is ordinarily very low. There have only been about 4 murders in the last dozen years. One of them last year was a murder-suicide over financial problems. Last weekend, the son from that family was married-he and his fiancee invited the whole town to the wedding (at the high school football field) and reception. They felt that it would help them and the town to heal.

Although the year-round population of Steamboat (or 'The Boat") is under 10,000 people, it is actually a small city rather than a town. It has a large-ish downtown, many shops and restaurants, and a completely free transit system. Here's a sample of today's police log:

Officers were called to a report of current and former girlfriend who were harassing each other. They were told to stop.
Officers were called to a report of a bear on a deck in the 2400 block of Ski Trail Lane, and it would not leave.

Additionally, it is so lovely here in June-everything green and lush with still snow-capped mountains looming above.

Sorry for the travelog- just wanted to provide some backdrop for this sad case.

After looking at his FB page, I have a feeling that this wife likely was extremely jealous of the love that Asher's father showed to him. It is VERY obvious that the had a very strong bond and loved Asher extremely. It seems like what I dream every father should be - it seems as if Asher was his whole world. I suspect that we will find that her "motive" for killing this precious little boy would be that evil, evil green jealousy that should NOT exist when looking at the relationship between a child and his/her parent.

 Such a sad, sad story!

That was exactly my impression too. There are a lot of photos of Asher and his father, none of her - or did he delete them?

Such a cute and bright boy! RIP Asher!

I feel the title of this thread can be misconstrued-reading like husband "says" (think sarcastic air quotes). Would be nice if it could be changed just to protect his dignity.

Glad to see some other folks in here chiming in for Asher and his dad. I mentioned earlier that there should be a change to the title-but don't know how???

I totally agree-if you were to look at my FB, it is pretty much the same-all my kids all the time...all of their sports, special days, fun pics, etc...It is quite apparent that I am a very involved, hands on, supportive and extremely proud mom. I saw that in this man.

What on earth would ever make someone do something like this? She wanted to hurt him so badly, she would take away the one thing more precious to him than life itself-his only son. And then she cowardly managed not to be able to kill herself and after admitting the murder, she requested a lawyer.

I really hope they do everything by the book in this case and get justice for Asher.

I guess you have to contact a mod to change the title for you.

It's incredibly sad. I can't imagine what the father is going through. She left a note saying basically it is all his fault, and even though his rational mind will know that this is not true, in his grief he will blame himself, I'm sure.

They were seperating, right? I guess he wanted custody of the son?

My guess is she will plead momentary insanity or something like that.

Looking at her picture I would have never pegged her as a child killer.

Thank you mods for changing the title of the thread.
