I think it's about a 15-20 min drive from downtown to this area. Depending, of course which way you go. It was a Wednesday, early afternoon, there wouldn't have been a lot of traffic then. Of course you also have to take into consideration how long it would have taken her to get to her car, assuming she went from WH to her car. It most likely would have been parked in the parking garage. I'm wondering, though, if the parking garage is the public place her car was found.
There are police cameras downtown on many street corners, not sure if they are outside the WH though....if I get a chance I'll go look this weekend.

Man arrested in murder of Waffle House waitress
OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. —
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the murder of a Waffle House waitress.
Talmadge Edward Powell, 78, of Lavista Road in Athens, is facing charges in the woman’s death, sheriff’s officials said.
Wow, great work by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office!!
A couple of new details have emerged:
"According to the sheriff's office, Myrick died from a single gunshot wound to the back, apparently inflicted at Powell's Oconee County home. The two were acquainted, according to information from the news conference."
So glad they have caught who did it. May she rest in peace.
Good job OCSO!

New bit of info, plus conflicting information about the gunshot wound:
"Powell allegedly shot Myrick after a dispute.
She was found dead Tuesday along Simonton Bridge Road in Oconee. Officials told the GA Daily News that Myrick had a gunshot wound in the head."
This is from Oconee Patch online newspaper:
Myrick and Powell previously had known each other, but Weems didn't elaborate on the nature of the relationship. The two apparently had an altercation after she left work and went to Powell's home in Oconee County, he stated.
"The case and the investigation does not end with the arrest," he said. "We still have some crime scene things we've got to do, some over evidence we've got to recover, and I don't want to go into why she would've been there."
Investigators believe Powell put Myrick's SUV on a trailer and placed her body at the side of Simonton Bridge Road before dumping the vehicle in the parking lot of Lowe's, he said.
"Meantime, investigators found her white GMC Jimmy SUV Wednesday night in the parking lot of Lowe's on Lexington Road in Athens. They had gone to store to meet someone from another agency and spotted the SUV, he said."
"We were able to obtain security footage from several locations and backtrack from there," said Weems. "That's how we determined the make and model of the [truck] that was released on Friday."
What?! I didn't log on WB yesterday and today an arrest? Well, that's great!... but, 78 years old, did I read that correctly? And LE won't get into the nature of their relationship? I wonder why? This is truly sad, may you rest in peace now, Misty...and strength to her 15 year old daughter!
Daughter of Oconee County Murder Victim Says Arrest Brought Closure to her Heart
Misty Myrick's 15-year-old daughter wants her mother's story to be told.
New article detailing the fantastic work by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office (and by alert citizens who turned in tips)!
a few snippets from the article:
On Friday afternoon, a photograph of a pickup truck similar to one then being sought in connection with Myrick’s death was posted on the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page. “Within 10 minutes of getting the picture out on Friday, we were getting tips,” Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Monday.
Authorities say Myrick went to Powell’s home, but they won’t disclose why they think she was there and what led to the fatal shooting.
Powell’s only other known arrest in Oconee County came in March, when he was charged with shoplifting for allegedly trying to steal steaks at Bell’s grocery, authorities said.
It is along a strip of stores, with no parking lot like a normal one. Just on street parking and the parking deck. She probably parked in the deck. ( which probably has additional video too).
Glad they made a quick arrest, here. They had three counties involved with where she lived, where she worked, and where she was found. Facebook tipsters rock!
ETA: I see from the article that a few restaurants are there and on the bottom level of the parking deck.
Thank goodness they nabbed the guy. I still can't get over how quickly it all went down. Within 90 minutes, he killed Myrick, disposed of her body, and hitched up a trailer to move her car. That's some fast thinking for a 78 year old. Makes me wonder if he planned it.

Misty Myrick's Funeral

more at link.Misty Myrick was laid to rest today near Crawford, Georgia. There were so many people there that a lot had to stand.
I think a regular customer had an issue with her of some kind. Maybe he stalked her even; we don't know yet. But I suspect this because of the timeline and much more imo
Dont Be A Sheep
Hitching up the trailer to move her car is the part that I just can't figure out. Who would go to that extent to hitch up a trailer (unless this was pre-planned), when they could just drive the car to some unknown spot (without Lowe's cameras).
