    UT - Tyler Mayle, 22, Y Mountain Provo, 1 June 2013

Parents of a BYU student missing since Saturday have come to Utah as crews search for their son.

Tyler Mayle, 22, of Colorado, went hiking near Y Mountain around 11:30 a.m. Saturday and hasn't been heard from since. The man was scheduled to return Saturday night and attend a meeting Sunday. His family called to report him missing on Tuesday.

    ------------------------------------

His parents said they know people have asked why they didn't report he was missing until Tuesday. They said they know their son, and it was not uncommon for him to go hiking and not contact anyone for several days.

    -------------------------------------

It is believed Mayle had a cellphone when he left for the hike.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

The search for a 22 year-old BYU student, Tyler Mayle, who has been missing for five days, continue as his family prepares to say goodbye to his younger sister who is scheduled to enter the MTC.

    -------------------------

“They’re on the right track,” Gary Mayle said. “They are using my phone on the mountain to coordinate information they received from Tyler’s phone pings.”

The last ping from Tyler’s phone came on Tuesday around 6 p.m., which authorities believe came from a location south of the Y on the mountain face – a place known for steep terrain dropping off to the river.

    ---------------------------

Tyler’s younger sister, Hailey, recently received a mission call and was scheduled to report to the MTC Wednesday afternoon.

    Live press conference now:

Thanks to everyone who has helped look for Tyler... thanks to the media.
Our plea again is to the media and the public.
We believe he left at 10am and started hiking at 11am on Saturday.
If anyone saw him PLEASE give us a call and let us know.
We have crews all over the mountain looking for Tyler.

Channel 4's reporter just decided to break away because there is obviously no new information!
How disrespectful to the freaking cops who took the time to give you an update!

Then the reporter decided that since they have pinged his phone in two places "he may be moving."
Or maybe he WAS moving and now he's not.... the last ping was 22 hours ago, he isn't currently moving.
    Way to give false hope!

"I think he's capable of sticking it out, knowing we're looking for him," said Gary Mayle, who arrived Tuesday from Windsor, Colo.

    -------------------------

"He knows what it takes to take care of himself,"
he said, adding his biggest concern is lack of resources, particularly water.

    -------------------------

It is the family's belief that Tyler Mayle is injured.

"If he could get out of whatever situation he's in, he would get out of it," Lori Mayle said. "He's not lost. He knows this mountain well. He's been on it many times.

    ----------------------

Tyler Mayle, a BYU junior studying communication and political science, had a cellphone and a hydration pack when he left for the hike, Siufanua said.

Searchers have tried "pinging" his phone to pinpoint his location but believe the battery died about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Siufanua said an individual called police Wednesday night and said they had been spotting for deer around 8:40 p.m. Saturday and had seen someone rock climbing in the area Mayle's body was eventually found.

Based on this report, search and rescue crews were moved to that area and scaled down the cliff, locating Mayle's body at the bottom.

    ------------------------

Siufanua said Mayle's family, who arrived from Windsor, Colo. Tuesday, struggled with the news of Tyler Mayle's death, but have been "fabulous" in their committment to their son and the search effort. Siufanua said they were at the mountain again Thursday and weren't planning to leave until their son's body was recovered.
