GUILTY NY - Jason Strauss for assault, attempted kidnapping, 15 June 2013

"THURSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they've charged a 29-year-old man with kidnapping and assaulting a woman as she jogged along a rural road in New York's Southern Tier."

"Investigators say the victim was jogging on County Route 3 in Thurston when she was approached by Strauss in a truck asking for directions.

That's when deputies say Strauss got out of his truck and forced the woman into his vehicle.

When the woman fought back and got out, police say Strauss backed his truck into her, knocking her into a ditch. She ran to a nearby house and called 911."

Strauss was arraigned just after 10 p.m. Friday night. He’s in the Steuben County Jail on $100,000 cash bail/$200,000 property bail.

Quite disturbing, IMO. Makes me wonder if this person has ever done anything like this before. Perhaps similar unsolved cases in NY ought to be revisited.

I wonder how much time he will do if convicted for this? Should really be charged with attempted murder IMO, since what would have happened to this woman had he managed to abduct her?

I agree. How is it not assault with a deadly weapon as well? It sounds likely to me that he intentionally backed a pickup truck into her, knocking her into a ditch. If a truck isn't a deadly weapon, what is? If he were drunk, it would be attempted murder even if he'd done this unintentionally. Throw the book at him. Anyone behaving this way deserves to minimally be removed from society for a very long time. No good ever comes from predators who attack people in public and kidnap them. I've never heard a single case in which the intentions of the kidnapper are good. Sick.

Under a plea deal between Chemung County Chief Assistant District Attorney John Thweatt, special prosecutor in the case, and Strauss’s attorney William Easton, he pleaded guilty to a single count of second-degree attempted kidnapping, a class B felony.
