Asheville man's disappearance a mystery

Friends and family of William Howard Pack have no idea what happened to the man. They said they haven’t had any contact with him since 2004.

Gary Cotter, one of Pack’s longtime friends, reported him missing in April. He said he has been worried about his friend — and even looking for him — since spring 2004. They have lost touch several times throughout the years, he said, and he thought maybe Pack took off to start a new life.

But Cotter, 54, finally felt compelled to do more when Pack’s father died earlier this year. Cotter called Pack’s mother to send his condolences and then asked to speak to his friend.

“I thought for sure he would be there,” Cotter said. “His mom broke down in tears, and that’s when I found out she hadn’t seen him since 2004 either.”

After he was reported missing on April 29, William Howard Pack remains a missing person and the Asheville Police Department is asking the public for help. The 49-year-old Asheville man was last seen by a relative in 2007, but it is unknown where he is today.

The Asheville Police Department is asking for assistance in locating a man reported missing on 04/29/2013. William Howard Pack, 49, of Asheville, was last seen in 2005. All investigative leads have been exhausted up to this point in finding Mr. Pack. The attached photo was taken in 2004.
