Maybe we should just start submitting potential matches at random.

Oh yes. I am trying to be patient, but it seems clear that there was a set of fingerprints taken from Jane Doe which should have triggered a match in AFIS.

And there is that pesky "white" classification.....

It is a good lesson. Never, ever assume that the race classification is completely reliable.

To be fair, she WAS a woman. And she was found in Maryland. They did get that right.

To be honest, looking at Ms. Toni's picture, I wouldn't be able to guess what race she was. BUT according to her family she had hair that was very distinctly of an African American texture. That should have been a HUGE clue.

This is bad. There are a lot of UID's in MD. I am not sure how to approach the rest of them. I could be wrong, but it seems like it was a rush job.

Looking at that reconstruction you could not tell me that she was white. That reconstruction looks 100% African American.

    Agreed.

We have some folks on the Toni Barrett thread beating themselves up about missing her as a possible match. Myself included. Passed her right by because of the white designation. Absolutely everything else matched up including the clothing description.

Curious thing about the motel-if you take a look at Google Maps, it isnt clear at all that she was associated with the location of the El Rich. jmo.

I'm not familiar with Toni's case; does someone know if she was biracial (African and Caucasian)? If she was, the racial misclassification seems understandable.

Not according to family and they made it a point of sharing that Toni's hair was unmistakeable.

I think LE just wrote this Jane Doe (who we now know is Ms. Toni) off as homeless person or junkie or prostitute. I think they wrote her off as disposable. And that really ticks me off. Even if she WAS any of those things, she is still someone's daughter, friend, sister, mother or what have you. LE didn't just drop the ball. They walked away before it was even tossed.

Ms. Toni deserved more respect than this.

I think you are right necco-but Toni's case was hampered out of the gate by all of the push back between jurisdictions. And the story is a common one for people on the fringe who go missing. It is easy to get resources for the beauty queens-not so much women like Toni and Jane Doe.
