azcentral ‏@azcentral 1m MT @myhlee BREAKING: AZ Forestry confirms 19 bodies found, SE side of fire. 18 from Prescott hot shot crew. 19th identity unknown.

We have winds & storms moving over AZ. There's also a fire on Mt. Lemmon, Tucson, AZ. Mile post 8, Prison Camp Road. It's miserably hot everywhere and the lightening will spark our wildfires. dang.. Yarnell Hill Fire is where the firefighters were lost. Town evacuated.

I read tweets earlier where the helicopter pilot flying over saw that these men were surrounded by the fire. Just awful, may they rest in peace.

Live coverage of the Yarnell fire.

19 firefighters die in blaze

http://www.cnn.com/

(CNN) -- Nineteen firefighters were killed Sunday battling a blaze in Arizona, the state forestry division said. The vast majority were from Prescott, said Wade Ward with the Prescott Fire Department.

The crew was fighting the Yarnell Hill fire, which broke out Friday northwest of Phoenix. The fire has grown to 1,000 acres, damaged three homes and forced the evacuations of residents in the communities of Peeples Valley and Yarnell, forestry official Art Morrison said.

How awful! I have a friend who is a fire-jumper in Oregon - what a tragedy......

Nineteen. Sweet Jesus.
May God bless them all...their families, little children, loved ones.
May they find comfort in the heroic duties of these firefighters called to service.
Prayers.

The whole fire department but one man who has 75 percent burns over his body, are gone. 250 homes out of 500 are gone. How horrible.

Local Mile post 8, Prison Road on Mt. Lemmon is being reported on. My friend is near there. I'll post if there's more before going to bed.

We are just a timber box with the heat. Lightening sure isn't helping.

One of the locals in town said that 8 to 10 of the firefighters were permanent employees and the remainder were volunteer. Most of them were college age. How sad.

Heartbreaking and terrifying. Yes, please keep us posted. Thoughts and prayers to all who have lost loved ones and are suffering and who have lost homes and for those in harm's way.

Good article about the Prescott FD Granite Mountain Hotshots' recent fire fighting (6/23/2013) with some background information.

"The Granite Mountain Hot Shots, established in 2002, are an elite ground firefighting crew known for their innovative problem-solving and history of safe, aggressive fire suppression..."

ETA: the group was the Granite Mountain Hotshots...separate from the Prescott FD.

Bless all these brave souls lost.

Prayers to their families and friends to help them through the tough days ahead.

Local fire on Mt. Lemmon. I love the Catalina's, they can't burn again.

At approximately 6PM tonight 6/30/13 a fire was reported in the Catalina Mountains near Gordon Hirabayashi Day site. The fire, reported by the Lemon Rock Lookout on top of the mountain, likely was started by one of the numerous lightning strikes the area received this evening. Fire crews have responded to the fire, burning in light flashy fuels that have grown in since the Aspen Fire 11 years ago. Additional resources will be assigned as needed. It would be helpful if members of the public would avoid the area while crews deal with the fire tonight and on into tomorrow 7/1/13.
