"A Paris-born performer in Cirque du Soleil's "Ka" died after a fall during a show in Las Vegas.

Sarah Guyard-Guillot was pronounced dead late Saturday night at a hospital after falling about 50 feet from the show's stage.

Witnesses told the Las Vegas Sun that the accident occurred near the end of the production Saturday night at the MGM Grand."

I've only seen them on TV and it is amazing what they do. Don't know if I could ever watch the show in person as a lot of the stuff they do scare the crap out of me.

So sorry for the loss of a great artist and prayers for her family.

It was wild. I had never even heard of it and won tickets off the radio. My friend and I went. We prayed and held hands a lot. It was terrifying to watch. But beautiful, too.

Prayers for Sarah's co-workers, friends, family, and particularly her children.

Very sad. My thoughts and prayers are with the artist's family, friends, and fellow cast members.

I had long enjoyed watching various Cirque du Soliel performances on PBS and looked forward to seeing the troupe perform at Disney World on a visit in 2000 for my 50th birthday. La Nouba was designed specifically for family audiences and is performed in a specially built facility that resembles a circus tent. The unobstructed theatre-in-the-round venue makes everyone in the audience feel like they are part of the live performance: It is breathtakingly beautiful and emotionally captivating!

Glad you had a great show! If I can be guaranteed nothing bad happens I'd enjoy it in person.

I've seen CdS shows a few times...wonderful. Prayers for the performer's family!

I absolutely love cirque du solie! I was saddened to hear this! RIP Sarah!

Clark County coroner's officials say they expect to rule on the official cause of death Tuesday. Nevada officials said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the incident, and Cirque officials promised their full cooperation.

Menard said she could confirm that Guillot-Guyard didn't slip out of her harness, but couldn't provide additional information about what led to the deadly fall. OSHA's conclusions aren't expected for months.

I've been thinking about this talented woman and her family all day -including her Cirque family. How DEVASTATING it must have been for her and for everyone who saw her plummet to her death. My heart goes out to her family- especially her children. She was so young. This story is just so sad to me. I read on twitter that it is believed that her wire snapped, not that she fell out of the safety harness. Either way...it sounds absolutely horrible.

I've seen many, many Cirque shows including "KA" in Vegas and they are all truly amazing shows. Every time we see a show I just sit in my seat in awe of what these artists can do. There's just no other type of company that can produce shows like Cirque can. Everything is just amazing, mystical and beautifully done. These are a bunch of extraordinarily talented people who work very hard at what they do to bring joy and entertainment to people all over the globe. RIP Sarah, and God Bless your family and the friends who will miss you.

I can tell you from experience that when something like this happens, it is quite traumatizing to the audience members also. When my children were young we took them to the circus here in Pittsburgh. A woman who was part of a trapeze-style act was hanging upside down and and something broke. She was not all that far off the ground, maybe 10-12 ft. but she came straight down on her head. And it all happened to fast for her to scream, she just lay there like a rag doll.

After she was removed by ambulance, the show resumed, but many parents with children left. Myself included.

eta: Read in the paper the next day she did not die. But a broken neck had left her paralyzed.

I went to this show at the MGM Grand a few years ago. Apparently the performer who died would have been in it, since it says she's an originial cast member since 2006.

I was nervous throughout the show. It was fascinating and beautiful, but I was just not enjoying it like others in my group.

And, ironically, my now adult daughter just brought that incident at the circus up about a month ago. (The context was discussing taking her child to the circus) She was about 8 at the time and apparently she never forgot it.

On Tuesday, the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed fines of more than $25,000 for Cirque du Soleil for safety violations in the June 29 death of a performer Sarah Guillot-Guyard, who fell nearly 100 feet after a wire broke during a performance of the "Ka" show at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The agency proposed fines of $7,000 for the casino.

Those fines have to be a drop in the bucket for those companies, I assume.

I wonder how they could've prevented the accident?

(I can just barely read the details so I don't know who is at fault; I am terrified of heights and I've seen Cirque shows before. i.e. I am too freaked out to read details.)

I'm addicted to Cirque. I am always astonished by the performers abilities. These stunts they perform are nothing short of miraculous... and appear very dangerous. Prayers to this brilliant performer, family, friends, Cirque family, and especially her children. Very sad.
