Sheriff Seeks Help in Identifying Body Found in Creek

The body of a white man, believed to be in his 40s, was pulled from Sallisaw Creek on June 27. The medical examiner believes the body had been in the water between two weeks to a month...The man is about 190 pounds, 5’10”, and had no top teeth, or possibly wore dentures...He was wearing size 36×34 blue jeans and an XL turquoise t-shirt wrapped around his belt buckle. The man also appeared to be wearing “no slip” socks like the ones worn by patients in hospitals.

When the news station originally posted on their Facebook that a body was being pulled from the creek, there was some discussion in the comments that this couldn't technically be near the mouth of the Arkansas River. Not being geographically savvy, I didn't worry about it until it became a missing person's case. I will try to find that later and see if they resolved it.

It was at the mouth of Sallisaw creek where it meets the Arkansas River. They corrected the story but not the photo caption. This is also near Fort Smith, AR.

From wikipedia, for anyone who wants to clarify the geography in their mind.

"Sallisaw Creek is a 46.7-mile-long (75.2 km)[1] tributary of the Arkansas River in far eastern Oklahoma. Its source is between Taylor and Doublehead mountains just south of Stilwell in Adair County. It flows in a southwestern direction through southern Adair County and central Sequoyah County before it empties into Robert S. Kerr Lake on the Arkansas River. The creek has four large tributaries. Greasy Creek meets Sallisaw Creek in southern Adair County, while Dry Creek and Brushy Creek join Sallisaw Creek near Marble City in northern Sequoyah County, and Little Sallisaw Creek flows into Robert S. Kerr Lake as it meets Sallisaw Creek."

So, larger than many of the things that get called creeks.
