UK ∙ Rule Britannia! Iron Maiden's Trooper Ale now available in bars of Parliament

In a time of division, in this time when compromise goes lacking when it is exactly what is needed, Congress should install a bar or two.

What would be wrong with POTUS having a couple brewskis? Or John Boehner with a slight buzz on? (Sure this last is frightening to contemplate - but these are desperate times, lol.)

A convivial buzz might break deadlock.

Sure, overdrink would lead to problems - one could imagine ex-Congressman Barney Frank in a punching match with ex-Congressman Dick Armey. But we've always been a brawling, muscular people!

And women? Yes, ex-Congressman Nancy Sebelius might, after several, take down Congressman Michele Bachman by her hair, this is true. But I trust women to handle it far more than men.

    Anyway....

Iron Maiden Beer Now Available in Parliament. (shortlist.com)
Sure America is celebrating independence from Britain, but news has emerged that will make you proud to be British. Iron Maiden's beer is now available for MPs in the Houses of Parliament.

Between debates and votes members like to visit The Strangers Bar in the House Of Commons, where guest ales are often on offer to promote lesser known British beers.

Member of Parliament for Hove, Mike Weatherley, suggested Iron Maiden's Trooper Ale. He told Complete Music Update: "As an Iron Maiden fan and an MP, it is a real treat to have this specialist ale as one of the guest ales in parliament – the fact that I also get to try it for the first time on my birthday is just a bonus”.

Iron Maiden’s front man Bruce Dickinson said: “I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: [brewers] Robinson’s are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years”.

(And incidentally, I get about half of my thread ideas from fark.com. Don't miss it - a great site.)

You made me laugh about John Boehner. OMG, he'd be crying about everything...LOL

Thanks for the laugh today. Although I am sure Ted Kennedy had his own bar in his coat pocket...LOL

Yes, Teddy could be pretty damn convivial without a bar in sight!

Incidentally, Bruce Dickinson is quite an interesting guy. He has a transport pilot's license and has flown the big birds commercially.

Yes, he could. That is why I said he probably kept a bar in his pocket. Probably had a flask the size of a fifth....LOL And of course a smaller one, that way when he took a small sip, it didn't look too bad....LOL The fifth size was for when he was in his office alone...Or when he had to take a potty break during a boring talk in the Senate. LOL

Glaring omission in my life: I've never owned a hip flask. Probably for the best!

You don't need one, unless you fill it with Mountain Dew, the soda pop variety, not the moonshine variety...LOL

I've never really been an Iron Maiden fan but heck, thread needs one of theirs. "This is your captain, Bruce Dickinson, speaking!"

I should just carry two liters of Mountain Dew on my person at all times. (Trivia: back when Mountain Dew was first marketed, it was marketed as a real "hillbilly" beverage - back in the time when the Beverly Hillbillies was the #1 show on TV. Sell line: "It'll tickle your innards!")
