Brand-new wooden roller coaster temporarily shut down because riders were screaming too loud. (Mail on Sunday)
A one-month old wooden roller coaster at a Northern California theme park was temporarily closed July 1 because riders were screaming too loud.

The Gold Striker roller coaster opened June 1 at Santa Clara theme park California's Great America.

But because of a deal with real estate company Prudential concerning the park's noise level flowing over to nearby housing developments, the roller coaster had to be temporarily shut down to create an enclosure on part of the ride to dampen the noise.

Standing at 108.2 feet, the ride is the tallest wooden roller coaster in Northern California.

It is also one of the fastest, reaching speeds of nearly 54 mph - second only in Northern California to The Grizzly, another wooden roller coaster in the same park.
