Mom turns in son to save grandchildren
Fear for her grandchildren's safety prompted an Orlando woman to tip authorities this week that her son might be running an illegal drug lab in his home.
Fumes from chemicals used to produce the methamphetamine were so strong late Thursday that they stung the eyes of an Orange County deputy who searched the house in east Orlando, records show.
Kathleen Scott's son and daughter-in-law were both arrested on felony drug charges as a result of her tip to the state Department of Children & Families, records show.
"It was a good decision. This is something that had to be done," Scott, 46, said Friday afternoon, as her 6-year-old granddaughter sat at her side. "My grandchildren were in jeopardy."
Explosion and fire are common dangers associated with labs producing the illegal stimulant.
A search of the house on Diamond Drive rented by Eric and Sandy Tucci, parents of Scott's grandchildren, found bottles of hydrochloric acid, lye, and Toluene used to make methamphetamine, records show.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?
