Mother forced her two-year-old daughter to drink liquid antihistamine then smothered her to death before pleading with her father for a gun to kill herself

24-year-old pleads not guilty to murder of toddler
Woman allegedly covered girl with blanket so she 'wouldn't see her eyes'

According to her affidavit by Detective Thomas Pickering of the Maine State Police, on June 27, the Auburn woman said she gave her daughter Loh Grenda two or three doses of Benadryl, before putting duct tape over her mouth and covering her with a blanket so she 'would not have to look at Loh's eyes'.

'Leanna Norris said that she killed Loh Grenda; that Leanna Norris put her hand over Loh Grenda’s face and suffocated her,' the affidavit said.

Benadryl is an antihistamine, which can also cause drowsiness.

Norris, who had been on her way to visit her parents in Stetson, said she killed her daughter by covering the child's face with her hand, then removed the tape 'so it would not look so horrible', according to Portland Press Herald.

After allegedly killing her child, Norris told police she drove to a cemetery in Stetson, where she took Advil in an attempt to take her own life.

Pickering's affidavit, dated June 27, said Norris told another detective that she left her home in Auburn with her daughter to drive to her parents' house in Stetson. On the way, she stopped on Durham Bridge Road in Newport around 8:45 p.m. on June 23.

The document says Norris gave Loh "two or three syringes of Benadryl to make her go to sleep." Then, it says Norris put black duct tape over her daughter's mouth and put a blanket over the girl so Norris "would not have to look at Loh's eyes."

Norris said she killed the girl by putting her hand over Loh's face and took the tape off the girl's mouth "so it would not look so horrible."

After that, Norris said she drove to a cemetery in Stetson, where she took a bottle of Advil and put tape over her face to kill herself. The suicide attempt failed and she called her father, Steven Norris, before she drove to her parents' home, according to the document.

Pickering wrote that S. N. told a detective his daughter called at 2:47 a.m. on June 24. He said she told him "that she killed her baby and wanted to die," according to the document.

What a beautiful little girl! Wtf is wrong with this mother?

If this turns out to be some desperate, stupid ploy to 'be with' a man, I'm going to puke......

The paperwork does not disclose a possible motive...

The Maine State Medical Examiner's Office said it is awaiting additional tests to determine the toddler's cause of death but did classify it as a homicide.

The video at this link states that she was living in a house in Stetson with her "ex-boyfriend" and daughter.

The mother of a little girl found dead in a car last week has been charged with murder.

Leanna Norris, 24, of Auburn, was arrested Wednesday morning at a medical facility in Rockport where she had been receiving treatment.

...the young woman has not adjusted well to the transition from a hospital bed to a jail cell.
:tantrum:

"She is very upset," Bangor attorney Martha Harris said outside Penobscot Superior Court. "She was taken from her treatment facility into jail. She just went to jail on Wednesday."

Andrew Benson, an assistant attorney general prosecuting the case, said he expects defense attorney Harris to file a motion for a mental examination of Norris.

Stetson father posted fears before toddler found dead
'I have absolutely no idea where my daughter is. That is entirely not OK,' he wrote on Facebook.

G-P said that her brother, M G -- Loh's father -- was never married to Norris, and that the two recently broke up.

M G's Facebook page has a series of posts beginning about 1:30 a.m. and extending through about 11 a.m. Monday, expressing anger and worry because he didn't know where Norris, who had his daughter, was.

He said he had last seen Loh on Sunday afternoon.

In another post in the same time period, he indicated that he wanted to gain full custody of his daughter.

I wonder if and when the father called the police. It's too bad he was up all night worrying and posting on facebook instead of out looking for them.

I hope this isn't sarcasm. We don't know what was going on between the parents. Maybe she had an order against him. We don't know.

What a beautiful, beautiful girl.
I will never ever understand what could bring anyone, much less a mother, to kill a child. Never. And I hope I never do.

Rest in peace, sweet Loh :rose:

I didn't mean to be snarky. I did mean literally, if his gut told him something was wrong enough that he was worrying all night, it's too bad he didn't trust his instinct enough to really sound the alarm.

Its Casey Anthonys MO as I believe. It worked for CA, Im guessing this mother thought it would work for her too. I will never forget Caylees case and the miscarriage of justice.

Leanna Norris repeatedly told medical staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center and an EMT while en route to the hospital that she had killed her nearly 2½ -year-old daughter and wanted to die, according to an audio recording played Tuesday, the second day of her jury-waived murder trial at the Penobscot Judicial Center...

Norris is charged with intentional or knowing murder. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
