I hope she is OK. So many older people are disappearing and many don't come back alive. Even if she just wandered off, someone could take advantage of her or she could get hurt. I hope she will be found quickly. One time when my mom was older and becoming less able mentally, I tried to get ahold of her and couldn't. She was nearly always home unless she went to the grocery store. I called and called and no answer. I drove to her apartment and had the super check to see if she was inside hurt. She wasn't, everything looked normal, and her car was gone. I was worried. Well, I finally got her on the phone that night. She had gone for an entire day and part of the evening to a starving artists sale at a hotel across town to buy a few paintings. She said she was glad to know that someone would notice and look for her if she went missing, as she lived alone.

I hope they find her. She is only wearing shorts and a t-shirt
She's vulnerable to people who would take advantage of her with her Alzheimer, and probably scared and confused. I hope someone nice recognizes her condition and alerts the Police asap.

Hellen was seen getting into a car, but there's no description of the vehicle.

This is worrying. It seems like a very rural area. I hope to heaven K9s have been used.

Hellen is featured on this fb; https://www.facebook.com/GPCink/posts/10150306606819995
I hope her photo is being shared a lot and there are flyers EVERWHERE!

Daughter says Mom might seem a little scary now, being outside for so long and confused with her Alzheimer's. Please, anyone who sees Hellen,, don't be scared, be helpful! She is tiny; under five feet and 95lbs.

This gentleman here was found after four days in a ditch behind a florist's. There's hope for Hellen, as she is physically fit.

I'll mention Hellen on Bob's thread - with his MO connection, I'm sure there must be viewers in MO who could help get the word out. My thoughts and good wishes go out to Hellen and her family.

I think we need to get the thread title amended - Helen's name is spelt Hellen in all the media articles.

Another link here, I don't think there's anything other articles haven't mentioned though.

    http://www.westcentralmoinfo.com/7-1...en-He/16843025

The strongest leads seem to be the tracker dogs tracing Hellen's route to the junction of Cold Spring Ave and Missouri Route 7 Highway. It disappeared then, which leads police to think she may have entered a vehicle at that point. A witness came forward to say she had seen a woman answering Hellen's description getting into a newer Black Ford F-150, a few hours after she went missing on Saturday July 13.

Latest sighting seems to be outside a Quick Trip in Kansas City, at the corner of 72nd and Wornall, Tuesday, I think. The person didn't enter the store though, so there's no cctv. Police have searched the area.

Daughter said something very important - Mom won't recognise her own name. But she might recognise a family joke about 'It's Hellen with two Ls, please don't shorten it!'

This lady must be very hungry and thirsty now. Let her be found soon, and may people she meets treat her kindly until she is.

I wonder if a silver alert has been issued?

    Hellen does have a Facebook page - a very active one;

    https://www.facebook.com/FindHellenCook?ref=nf

In this article it says a vigil is planned Friday, and a search Saturday. Official searches have been suspended. Anyone near Blue Springs, MO, volunteers are needed.

Thursday July 17, 2013: 'If we don't keep that picture out there, I'm afraid people will forget' (husband of Hellen).

    http://fox4kc.com/2013/07/17/police-...th-alzheimers/

Bless Hellen's husband, and all her loving family who are doing so much to find her. I hope she is found today. Volunteers are still being sought for the search taking place at Blue Springs tomorrow. Lots of info and pics on her fb page, which is appealing for likes and shares.

Although mentally Hellen is very vulnerable, physically she is in great shape; in my opinion there is a very good chance searchers will find her alive. Family believe she may be trying to walk the 115 miles back to her home in Buckner, MO (she disappeared from the family vacation home Warsaw). People should be looking out for a tiny, slim, dishevelled 72-year old lady. She doesn't recognise her own name any longer.

ETA: I think article linked above is a little confused. As far as I can make out, Hellen's family hadn't moved. She lives in Buckner and the Warsaw place is a vacation home.

'Friends and family wrapped up another search....thursday night'
    http://www.kshb.com/dpp/news/region_...y-night-search

It seems amazing, and confused me a little, but family are now searching 100 miles from where Hellen disappeared. They are going by; she always walked up to seven miles per day. Often, she'd forget she walked and take up to three per day. Three sevens makes 21 miles per day, so at that rate she could go 100 miles in five days, and could be near home in Buckner, by now. They say Hellen is also accustomed to working outside in the garden in high temperatures.

I understand that thinking, but it is a very long way without supplies. I hope homeless shelters along her possible route have been notified, and sent flyers, as well as campsites and any places near bodies of water along the way have been searched. I don't think Hellen could have made it even 50 miles without water.

Hellen disappeared the day after the anniversary of the 2009 death of her son. I did notice his obituary yesterday, and wondered if there could be any connection - people with alzheimer's I cared for would sometimes recall (and become upset by) events from years before, but not remember events from the previous day, or morning.

A long-term missing, vulnerable lady was located by a poster in another thread a while ago - she was from the US, but found living in a care home in Canada! The poster (along with others) matched her online photos. There is still hope for Hellen! Hope she is found soon!
