This looks like a great organization - and maybe Hellens Family and Police are asking them to help in the search. Would be good to have a few options.
They have a great photo album of their days out in the field working with their dogs. Looks like they do snow and water rescue too.
    Thanks zwiebel.

I did manage to get some feedback from a search and rescue professional. Strikeforce5 are MWDs, and scent training may not be as useful as K9s in this situation. But hopefully they have a K9 or two, and they will be used.

Still can't find anything online though. A person obviously has to be in the know to know where to look...and I'm not.

I had a very useful ( but heavygoing) academic study on searches for missing people which I have finally unearthed. It isn't light reading, but I'm hoping Hellen's family might spot it here and it might be useful for their campaign. I read right through it for Bob's case, and it is very useful ( not for poor Bob though). I am off to retrieve it from the pile.

Some more news links. I'm not having to search for them, for the first time ever. This is Hellen's family finding and posting them on the Fb page.

They will also have a banner at the MO State Fair, August 14.

Here is the academic paper, 'Problem Orientated Guides for Police', that I mentioned earlier. Worth reading.

Gosh, she was found where they found her personal things, or nearby. I wish they had used cadaver dogs and maybe she wouldn't have been there for so long. I do think they truly did the best they could though.

    Oh no.
It's 4am here and I woke up for some reason and just thought I would check in. I don't want to believe it, but the sheriff's office and Missouri regional C search team are saying they think it is Hellen they found, and family have identified some items as well.

Poor Hellen and her poor family. My deepest condolences to them. Rest in Peace, Hellen.

Thank you for posting the update CatFancier, although I'm so sad to hear it may be Hellen's remains.
Thankful her family has answers, but so sad.

This is tragic. I was hoping they would find her alive.

So was I, CountryGirl. This family did everything right, and everything they possibly could, right from the moment Hellen went missing. And yet still made time to think of others at the same time. They so deserved to bring Hellen back alive, but life just doesn't work like that, does it?

I just hope Hellen's husband is not still blaming himself for not forseeing his tiny wife would climb a high gate and take off when he turned his back for a minute. That's what makes Alzheimer's so devastating - it can combine very severe mental impairment with very good physical health. People with this condition are going missing every day. There is a poor man lost in Arizona on WS whose family have never been able to find him. He wandered off in the middle of a game of golf.

Many thanks to the SAR and LE and other professionals for bringing Hellen home. It must be very sad work sometimes, but what they do means the world to the families of the missing.

Oh no I was hoping that this wasn't ever going to be the case for this lovely lady. So sad. I am relieved that she was found though, and her family will have closure.
My deepest sympathy and prayers to her husband and family.

    Hellen's husband is interviewed:
They were married more than 50 years! So sad!

For 29 days Howard Cook and dozens of others posted Hellen Cook's photo everywhere they could. Those 29 days were filled with hope. The family barely slept and they jumped every time a phone rang, hoping that day was going to be the day they found her alive. On Aug. 11, 2013 officials found her, but it was too late...

Howard Cook, Hellen Cook's friends and their family started the group Hellen's Heroes. They want lawmakers to require training for law enforcement officers to teach them how to search specifically for someone with Alzheimer's who is missing. "So that nobody else has to go through what we did," Howard Cook said.

The group says that Hellen Cook was found when a specialized task force with proper training helped in the search. "Because they knew what to look for. They knew how to look," her husband said.
