    RI - Providence, Male skeletal UP11812, ~50, Jul'13 - Phillip Seals

    http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/local_n...dkAgo.facebook

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) Police are investigating after human remains were found at a downtown construction site that are believed to have been there for more than two decades.

Investigators are working toward determining the identity of the remains that were found outside of the Providence Community Health Center on Prairie Avenue on Wednesday.

According to Commander Thomas Oates, authorities are still trying to determine if the remains belong to a male or a female and they are hoping to find clothing that will provide clues.

At this point, police are still looking into the possibility that the body may have been there from a renovations project that took place in the 1970s and 1980s.

There aren't many listed cases out of Rhode Island.

All I can find from over 20 years ago are Doreen Marfeo and Katrina McVeigh:

    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...h_katrina.html
    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...eo_doreen.html

But the above women were missing in the 1990's. The news clip mentioned that the remains might date back to the 1970's and 1980's.

There's also Elaine Yates and her two daughters Kimberly and Kelly, but there's no mention of three sets of remains, or that the remains are children.

Looking in the two counties in Massachusetts adjacent to Providence (Norfolk and Bristol), I see three from the 1980's (and none from the 1970's):

    David Mark Wheeler http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...ler_david.html
    Marilyn J. Roberts http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...s_marilyn.html
    Christina Monteiro http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...christina.html

But Roberts and Monteiro are from New Bedford which is the opposite side of Bristol County. Wheeler was about 40 miles away.

Sucks that there isn't much info aside from being from the 70s or 80s and in Rhode Island. And, like you said, Rhode Island doesn't seem to have many missing persons. Here are some PMs who disappeared an hour or less from Providence:

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3283/150/
Keith Lalima, missing from Norwich, CT in May 1981. Norwich is about an hour away from Providence.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3282/153/
David Rusch from Stonington, CT in October 1979. About 56 minutes away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3367/146/
Charles Lasser from Mystic, CT in October 1981. About 56 minutes away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3332/120/
Oral Waldron from New London, CT in March 1992. About an hour away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/13988/64/
Dorothy Goroshko from Boston, MA in June 1975. 57 minutes away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/19727/51/
    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/7854/50/
William Garlick (September 1982) and Charles McArthur (September 1982) in Worcester, MA. 45 minutes away. Both went missing within a day of each other, but I don't think they're related because the circumstances for both are different ...

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/5940/53/
Judith Chartier from Chelmsford, MA in June 1982. A little more than an hour away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/2779/57/
Simone Ridinger missing from Sherborn, MA in September 1977. 52 minutes away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/6340/48/
Catherine Malconson from Stow, MA in August 1985. A little over an hour away.

    https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/5313/41/
Jennifer Fay from Brockton, MA in September 1989. 50 minutes away.

Been away for a while thought I'd chime in. Hi everyone.

Wish we had a little more info, sounds like a possible shallow grave possibly? I wonder how deep the remains were found. I am guessing they are thinking of this as a homicide investigation, and we all know these are the hardest ones to solve.

    Just a few thoughts...
Is the construction site in the proximity of any major freeways? (thinking freeway killers)
Any serial killers working though Rhode Island or close that may fit the shallow grave M.O. or late 70's early 80's time frame?
Or do they think this is a random murder?
What was in that location during that time? (renovation project from what?)

Maybe these are questions that will be answered in time by Police...
What a tough one to solve.

All of Rhode Island is near a freeway It's a tiny state and I-95 runs smack through the middle. NYC through Connecticut, RI, MA, coastal NH, and into Maine. Most major NE highways connect to it at some point.

I would say anybody who went missing from north of NYC and east of the Hudson would be a possibility.

There was a lot of gangland activity connecting Boston, Hartford, and Providence in the 70's and 80's.

I think this is the location where the remains were found: http://goo.gl/maps/WTBgC
If that's it, it's in not the best part of town. It's easy to get to from I-95, I-195 connecting to southeastern MA and Cape Cod, and US 6 connecting to Connecticut.

Here are some Massachusetts missing people who might be more likely to wind up dead in Providence. I didn't include children since there's no indication it's not an adult. Oddly, not a lot of officially listed adult men.

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2951dfma.html, Susan M. DeQuina, missing in 1979, was probably murdered by or because of her insane biker gang boyfriend, who was found dead in Connecticut. He had ties to RI.

    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2987dfma.html Edith LaRiviere, 1981

    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/831dfma.html Dorothy Carter, 1981

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/672dfma.html, Lynn Burdick, 1982, kidnapped from her job

    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/10dfma.html Judy Charpentier, 1982

One I would consider highly likely: http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/3100dfma.html Debra Cresotti, 1985. Her pickup was discovered at Bradley Airport (CT) and her husband is believed to have gangland connections.

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/3453dmma.html, David Mark Wheeler, missing 1985 from Braintree.

Another likely one: http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2127dfma.html, Marilyn J. Cardoza Roberts and http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2128dfma.html Christina M. Monteiro. They disappeared from New Bedford in 1988 and are believed to be victims of the highway serial killer operating in the New Bedford area in 1988 and 1989. 10 other women were found along highways in the area.

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2229dmma.html, James N. Lacouture, missing in 1988, probably didn't leave the Hardwick area but who knows.

    Another possibility:
    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/r/reed_kenneth.html

The Charley Project and Doe Network information regarding the town he is missing from is incorrect. It is listed as Fairfield, CT. Reading the rest of the information, he is clearly missing from the other side of the state, near RI.

He is actually missing from Colchester, CT. Colchester is about 10 minutes west of Norwich.

AHA! Found an article that lists him as missing from Colchester. http://articles.courant.com/1999-03-...issing-buckley
Unless I've provided a link, most of what I say is my own opinion. Sometimes, I'm thinking out loud and may explore avenues I don't necessarily think are true, but I'm always aware I could be wrong, so I check other stuff out.

If anyone knows a way to get Doe and Charley to correct this, please let me know. I've tried contacting Charley, but I guess my evidence wasn't compelling enough to make the correction. I know both towns as well as the mall he used to work in. Had a great record store way back when within sight of the Bee Bee Dairy.

Wow, it seems like there really could be gang/mob involvement with this death/burial doesn't it? Wouldn't it be a trip if Bulger was involved with this crime? Well it seems like the crime scene is easily accessible and you all know how these construction contracts go to the companies with strong ties to the unions and sometimes organized crime and it would have been easy to conceal the burial if the company with the contract had "connections".

There are quite a few MP's that fit the info we have so far, but how do you weed out the possibilities without more information. It seems they could compare dental records or maybe DNA if a profile can be extracted from the old bones. I guess we will see in time how this case progresses.

I lived in Providence (Trinity Square and later the Silver Lake area) from the early 70s to the early to mid-80s. I remember when our car was stolen from Trinity Square, this would've been in '73, it was found on Prairie Ave parked at the Roger Williams projects (which, I think, were eventually demolished). The discovery of the skeleton has certainly peaked my interest.

    Found this is in ProJo.com:

A human skeleton, wearing a jacket with a fur-trimmed collar, was found by construction workers who were pulling up concrete in the basement of an old factory building in the heart of South Providence Wednesday afternoon. Gilbane construction workers had pulled up concrete and bricks under an old elevator or dumb-waiter shaft when they uncovered a skull and bones of what appeared to be a small-sized male,...
