snipped...Nazareth Area High School math teacher and outdoorsman Matthew Greene has been missing since he telephoned his parents two weeks ago from a campsite near Yosemite National Park in California.

Greene, 39, of Bethlehem, was in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., on July 16 when he last talked with his parents, Robert and Patricia Greene of Lehighton. The avid hiker and rock climber hasn't called or answered his cellphone since.

There were some developments over the weekend in the case of missing hiker Matthew Greene, 39, a Bethlehem resident who teaches in the Nazareth Area School District, according to a Facebook page dedicated to providing information on the adventurer who was last heard from July 16 in mountainous Mammoth Lakes, Calif.

That is crazy that it took them over two weeks to figure out he was missing. I was a bit confused as to why they originally thought he was in Yosemite as Yosemite is close to 100 miles away from Mammoth. Just read on the Facebook site listed above that SAR don't believe he had anything with him that would indicate he was planning on going hiking overnight. So sad. Hope he is found.

Matthew Greene, a popular math teacher at the school 65 miles north of Philadelphia, vanished while on a backpacking trip in California last month. Police say Greene was there to hike and climb the Eastern Sierra, a region that features extremely steep and rugged terrain, with many peaks soaring to 12,000 and 13,000 feet.

His disappearance has baffled friends and family who call Greene a highly experienced, cautious outdoorsman.

On the Find Matthew Facebook page there is a comment regarding a found pair of glasses ... And are looking into finding out if they are Matt's...

I know... FB is considered rumor...

But just thought I would throw that information out to y'all...

When the fall term begins at Nazareth Area High School on Monday, one teacher will be conspicuous by his absence.

His disappearance has baffled friends and family who call Greene a highly experienced, cautious outdoorsman.

"It just doesn't seem to me that he would go out for a day hike and not return," said his sister, Tiffany Minto. "We can't visualize him getting himself into any kind of dangerous situation. He's the personality type who would just turn back if it was too dangerous."

Matt's disappearance is hitting me hard for some reason. (not that others haven't but..)
Maybe because I am in education too, maybe it's his gentle smile and eyes. I hope he comes home soon.

Found what they think might be his glasses....
Interesting they were found hanging in a sign....like someone might leave something as a marker deliberately for someone to find them.

If I saw a pair of glasses lying by a trail, I would probably hang them on a sign or set them on a fencepost, thinking to make them more conspicuous if the owner came searching for them.
