A doctor from Oakland Township has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in a $35 million Medicare fraud scheme, officials announced Tuesday.

Dr. Farid Fata, 48, is accused of submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare, as well as falsifying documents and directing others to do the same. In one instance, he is accused of forcing a patient who fell and hit his head to undergo chemotherapy before receiving medical treatment for the head injury. The patient later died from the head injury.

Fata owns and operates Michigan Hematology Oncology Centers (MHO), which billed Medicare for approximately $35 million over a two-year period, according to a release from the office of U.S. District Attorney Barbara McQuade...

OMG I have this on channel 7 right now! And look at the facilities he has, guess we know where the money came from that. I went to have a mammogram last week and his Clarkston Office is in the same building, I remember thinking WOW HOW NICE.

I certainly hope they've looked at the other doctors there and their patients! This is just awful, cruel actually!

Yikes, this whole thing is all kinds of wrong.

-Set up an imaging company, specialty pharmacy of his own and directed patients to those for services.

-Had foreign doctors with no US licenses see patients.

-Took medical records home with him.

All in addition to falsely telling people they had cancer, falsely telling them they had anemia, giving them unneeded chemo and drugs...on and on.

I realized earlier today that Dr. Fata is represented by the same attorney, Christopher Andreoff, who represents Patrick Mikes, Jr. Mikes pleaded guilty but mentally ill today in the murder of his father last summer. Mikes, Jr. will be sentenced next month.

A suburban-Detroit doctor charged with conducting a multimillion-dollar Medicare fraud scheme can leave jail if he posts a $170,000 bond and remains electronically tethered to his home, two federal judges ruled Thursday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge David Grand on Thursday set release conditions for Dr. Farid Fata. His lawyer and prosecutors both appealed, and U.S. District Judge David Lawson upheld the conditions.

A hearing Friday before a third judge, Sean Cox, will confirm that the cash bond that Fata posts isn't drawn from funds linked to the Medicare fraud case, defense lawyer Christopher Andreoff told The Associated Press...

Small world. I went to this doc after my blood clot issue a few years back - the office that I went to was STUNNING, I dare say opulent.

Small world. I went to this doc after my blood clot issue a few years back - the office that I went to was STUNNING, I dare say opulent.

ALL of his locations are stunning and opulent. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a clinic or even a hospital so decked out.

Reading the complaint, I'm troubled that multiple physicians, multiple physician assistants and nurse practitioners knew this was going on and didn't report it. This didn't start yesterday. It certainly could have been reported anonymously.

If I had to guess, the costs associated with expansion and the over-the-top decor along with what looked like a fairly new home were catching up with him and he decided to "expand" his billing to meet those needs.

I don't know what he thought---although Medicare doesn't catch a lot of fraud, any physician who bills way over any others in the same specialty for treatment and testing does trigger an alarm.

Oh---the complaint says he was also doing bone marrow biopsies in UNSTERILE conditions at the clinics and in the hospital--no gloves.

This is just disgusting and I hope they prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law and sell his assets to repay what he stole. One of his clinics isn't far from where we live. I'm glad we've never gone there.

Oh this is nothing less then first degree murder in my opinion.

http://www.counselheal.com/articles...overnment-35-million-fake-medicare-claims.htm

Fata, the owner of the Michigan Hematology Oncology Centers (MHO) was arrested in Wayne County Jail located in Detroit, MI. His medical facilities were raided while federal agents collected all of the medical records.

It is my opinion that Doctor's should NOT be allowed to own the centers that treat their patients.

Same as dialysis centers, while waiting and waiting for the OK for the transplant, the Dr owning the center is in no hurry to get you off of that machine that is making them thousands every time you are on it.
