Details of Disappearance

White resided with her mother in Kodiak, Alaska in 1998. She was hired to babysit Sharon Dawson Raikoglo's young child while the latter attended a music festival in July 1998. Raikoglo and her then-boyfriend, Roland Scott Tennison, camped overnight with White and the child at the Pasagshak Bay State Recreation Site on July 18. The area is approximately 40 miles north of the city of Kodiak.

Tennison told authorities that White accompanied him to collect firewood from the beach at approximately midnight on July 19. Tennison stated that his four-wheel drive pickup truck became stuck in the sand near the Narrow Cape area shortly afterwards. He claimed that he and White decided to sleep inside the vehicle at approximately 4:00 a.m. Tennison stated that she had disappeared by the time he awoke at 10:00 a.m. White has never been heard from again.

Raikoglo contacted authorities when Tennison and White failed to return several hours after departing the campsite. Officials had launched a search by the time Tennison arrived later in the morning. No evidence related to White's whereabouts was found inside the park.

In July 2000, a state coroner's jury concluded that White died as the result of undetermined causes on the night of her disappearance. No physical evidence was discovered linking anyone to her case.

White's mother filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against Raikoglo and Tennison in February 2001. The suit alleged that Tennison may have been intoxicated on July 19 and injured White while they drove along the beach. Raikoglo was declared liable for White's presumed death in June 2003. Tennison, who now lives in Arkansas, did not defend himself against the suit and a judge ruled in White's mother's favor in August 2003, awarding her $1.5 million in damages. Neither Tennison nor Raikoglo have been charged with criminal wrongdoing in White's case. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

Just came across this case for the first time. It's pretty obvious poor Jonnie met with foul play.

So Tennison is gone somewhere in the neighborhood of ten hours and comes back with the story about the truck getting stuck. I wonder what story he gave about how he got the truck out.

I'm also having some difficulty with the part of the story in which he says he (apparently) slept through her getting out of the truck and he assumes she walked the three or four miles back to the campsite.

On July 19, Jonnie will have been missing for 25 years :(

<<Circumstances of Disappearance

Jonnie was last seen at the Pasagshak River State Recreation Site near Mile 9 of Pasagshak Bay Road. She had accompanied Sharon Dawson, Dawson's 4-year-old daughter, and Ronald Tennison to the Kodiak Music Festival. The couple had hired Johnnie as their designated driver and babysitter.

Sometime after midnight, Jonnie and Tennison drove onto a beach near the Kodiak Cattle Ranch to collect firewood. Tennison told investigators his truck got stuck on the beach and he and Jonnie decided to sleep in his truck until daylight. When he woke at 10.00 a.m., Jonnie was gone. Tennison returned to their camp around noon and discovered Jonnie hadn't returned.

A search team, including members of Kodiak Island Search and Rescue, Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs, State Fish and Wildlife Protection troopers, and others, combed the area of open, grassy terrain and occasional brushy ravine near Narrow Cape. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flew two sorties each day, using an infrared, heat-detecting device. No trace of Jonnie was found.

While searching Tennison's truck, investigators did not find any firewood in the truck. The truck was tested for blood and semen, and none was found.

Jonnie's mother had her declared legally dead in 2000. She then filed wrongful-death lawsuits against Tennison and Dawson and won. Criminal charges have not been filed. Foul play is suspected in Jonnie's disappearance.>>

It's pretty obvious who is responsible for Jonnie's disappearance.
I wonder if the guy and Sharon Dawson ever married or are still together, or if she is now able/willing to be re-interviewed. I suspect she might know what happened.
