A federal investigation and autopsy revealed two possible causes of death: The eagle's body contained lead shotgun pellets, and it suffered from malnutrition. I truly hope that this haunts the irresponsible jackass that did this.

a human mascot is so much easier to "handle". they can feed themselves, and aren't imprisoned for life.
