Plane crashes into house in East Haven; pilot, 2 children missing

EAST HAVEN Two children, ages 1 and 13, and the pilot of a plane that crashed into two homes on Charter Oak Avenue remain unaccounted for Friday morning.

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr., who was on scene, noted that no one had been recovered at the home, but offered his deepest sympathy to the families and the neighborhood about the apparent awful loss.

The FAA said the plane originated from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and crashed on approach into the Tweed-New Haven Airport at 11:25 a.m.

Two children and a pilot are unaccounted for after a small plane attempting to land at Tweed Airport in rainy conditions crashed into two East Haven, Connecticut houses this morning.

Gov. Dannel Malloy said they "have visuals of two bodies." They are in the basement. One appears to be an adult and one is younger, he said.

So sad.

"A woman was screaming her kids were in there," he said.
Esposito said he ran into the upstairs of the house, where the woman believed her children were, but they could not find them. They returned downstairs to search but he dragged the woman out when the flames became too strong.

Governor Malloy said 2 bodies have been recovered. (Sorry I have no link yet. The news is streaming on WTNH) There may have been up to 3 people on the plane.

Yes, this is so sad. I can't imagine the moms anguish.

Sources at the scene tell NBC Connecticut that the pilot and a 1-year-old child are among the dead.

"That does not mean that's the limit. In fact, we're sharing a lot of information about how that number may in fact be higher, based on reports we're getting from other airports, as well as folks on the scene who are familiar with the house."
