FL - Richard Millsap, 33, Winter Garden, 12 Aug 2013

A killer is on the run after police said he shot and killed a man in front of eight people working out at a Crossfit gym in Winter Garden.

The shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday at the CrossFit Mosaic Gym, off Carter Road between West Colonial Drive and East Story Road.
Winter Garden Police said a man walked in through the front door and shot the man in front of eight people who were exercising.

Clients at the gym said the owner Richard Milsap had inspired many of them to change their life and they watched as his was taken right in front of them.

"It wasn't just something that he said and did, it was something deep within him. You could see it in his eyes," explained Milsap's pastor, Renaut Van der riet.

Milsap named his CrossFit gym after the church he loved, 'the Mosaic'. His pastor is now trying to help Milsap's wife, two young children and other church members who also belong to the gym.

"The people who went to that gym, he cared more about them then he did the exercise," Van der riet said.

Police said a dark skinned man with his face covered and wearing sunglasses marched into the gym, targeting the instructor. He fired his gun and then walked out.

Eight people in the class saw the execution, but the gunman had his face covered.

A client at the gym tried to chase after him as the suspect got into a car with someone else and drove away.

Milsap's pastor said in the last two years, Milsap joined the church and had created a faith filled life.

Bible verses were written up on a chalkboard at the front of the gym.

"At the gym, the verse of the day that he throws up there. It wasn't just about getting stronger, it was always about this incredible discovery that he'd made in his faith journey," said Pastor Van der riet.

That journey was now entwined with helping people at his gym and people remember him as much more then a workout instructor, but as a motivator and counselor.

Police have not officially identified the victim and are asking for help to find who killed him.

CrossFit gym-slaying victim survived October gunfire

Richard Millsap, shown with his wife, Karen, was shot and killed while leading a class at his gym CrossFit Mosaic in Winter Garden
Ten months before Richard Millsap's slaying inside his Winter Garden CrossFit gym, he narrowly escaped injury when a rash of bullets struck his car, law-enforcement records show.

As Millsap was driving on Pine Hills Road on Oct. 14, a man who had tailed him from a basketball game at Barnett Park pulled up beside his Nissan Maxima and squeezed off several rounds, Millsap told deputies.
One bullet flew through his rear passenger window and was lodged in the left passenger door, another struck the right rear door and a third hit the rear panel on Millsap's sedan, according to an Orange County Sheriff's Office report.

In April 2012, Millsap was arrested on two battery charges after a fight at Gino's Pizza in downtown Orlando, according to court documents. Millsap pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor battery charge, and the other was dropped. He was sentenced to about a year of probation.

Winter Garden police have not linked his past arrest or the October shooting to Monday's attack.
