Torres is not talking to investigators, but they now believe him to be the main suspect in the June 18 killing of Luis Acevedo on the 2800 block of North Lawrence Street in Fairhill.

The description of the car involved in that murder matched a car Torres drove at the time. Shortly after the slaying, he traded it in for the BMW he crashed Tuesday, police sources said. Investigators believe Torres killed Acevedo, 46, because he owed him money over drugs. On Tuesday night, crime scene investigators recovered a 9mm handgun from Torres' home as well as about $40,000 to $50,000 worth of packaged ready-to-sell heroin. The .45-caliber handgun he allegedly used to shoot Davies was stolen in a June 2012 from a retired suburban officer in a Northeast Philadelphia burglary.

With his original conviction overturned, a man who allegedly shot a Philadelphia police officer five years ago is weighing his new options.

Eric Torres has to decide whether he will take a deal and plead guilty or proceed with a new trial.

In 2013, Officer Davies was shot in a struggle as officers tried to take Eric Torres into custody in Feltonville.

In 2015, a jury acquitted Torres of attempted murder, but he was convicted on multiple charges including aggravated assault.

He was sentenced to 66 to 132 years in prison.

But that conviction was overturned. That decision was based on the constitutionality of a subsequent search on Torres' home.

Torres remains in custody.

Decision for suspect in Philly cop shooting: plea deal or new trial

Thank you Joe. I don't know how to get to court records either.

Officer Davies is a "true" cop. He lost a kidney, lost a severe amount of blood, and suffered nerve damage. After 933 months out of work he went back. He celebrated with family and fellow officers. He is the kind of Officer who is a cops cop.

Meanwhile he needs the stress of this? Felon with stolen firearm who sent police on a chase, and attempts to disarm said felon in a small Bodega in the Badlands.

Thank you Officer, Davies.

Might as well set the felon free. Give him a gun. Just one more out there. Why not?
