A woman kidnapped from Catawba County jumped from a moving car on U.S. 321 and fought off a man stabbing her before she was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler, detectives said.

Investigators said Aaron Compton Jr. bought a big knife at Walmart about an hour before he shattered his ex-girlfriend's bedroom window and climbed in around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on Rocky Ford Road.

Tabitha Heavner, 40, called 911

Investigators said he then stabbed her and forced her into her car.

Detectives said then Compton called 911 and promised he was going to take her to a hospital.

Instead police said he drove down Highway 321 south.

When they reached Gastonia, Heavner jumped out of the moving car into the path of traffic in an attempt to escape.

The sheriff said Compton stopped the car, got out and "stabbed her a couple more times then. She was attempting to get away when she was struck by a semitruck."

Police said Compton saw her get run over and then drove off.

Sometimes I wish we had 'an eye for an eye' type punishment...he should be stabbed and then run over by a semi! How awful!

apparently, several vehicles hit her

rest peacefully now Tabitha

Judge Eric Levinson sentenced Aaron Compton Jr., 50, to life in prison for the August 2013 kidnapping and murder of Heavner.

Compton, who lived in Granite Falls at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty Monday in Catawba County Superior Court to first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury...

McGinnis said what Compton did was planned. He said Compton went to Walmart in Granite Falls and bought a knife, rope and machete. Those items were found in Compton’s truck... A notebook was found at Compton’s home with a to-do list he had written that included buying the items and changing his will and testament to leave everything to his daughter.
